Best 360 cameras for your needs

Choose around the clip you want to finish. A quick flat video, a full scene for later reframing and automatic subject selection are different jobs. Check whether the camera can do them together, then include the card, pole, editing device and lens care in your choice.

Top picks by situation

  • A family camera that leaves you a finished clip

    Insta360 X6

X6 can save 4K30 flat and 8K30 surrounding footage together and explicitly supports pet tracking. Enable 360 Video Backup, check the tracked subject and copy important files elsewhere afterward. This does not guarantee every moment stays in view.

Main trade-off: Enable 360 Video Backup to retain other angles. The extra file stays on the same device and is not an independent safety copy.

Position 2
Insta360 X5

Insta360, CINSAAHA-S Midnight Black Standard Bundle

Insta360 X5

A strong choice when a quick 1080p clip is enough for family sharing and you want the full scene available for a later edit. Updated InstaFrame 2.0 can follow a selected person. Its 4K flat mode drops the simultaneous 360 recording, and its in-camera tracking excludes pets and objects.

Best fit forA selected person in a quick 1080p clip, with other angles kept for later

Why it fits

  • 200 g. MicroSD video storage, with no internal recording space.
  • With supported current firmware, InstaFrame 2.0 records 1080p 30 flat plus 5.7K+30 spherical video. 4K30 flat is available without that surrounding recording.
  • Ordinary spherical modes reach 8K30, 5.7K60 and 4K120. These resolutions cover the full sphere.

Know the trade-offs

  • InstaFrame 4K flat output requires turning 360 Video Backup off. With the surrounding recording retained, flat output is 1080p.
  • In-camera tracking follows one human, not animals or objects. A memory card is required, and an underwater outing can affect microphone sound until dry.
Position 3
Insta360 X4 Air

Insta360, CINSAAFA Graphite Black Standard Bundle

Insta360 X4 Air

A lighter camera for a walk or a pole-mounted travel shot when ordinary 8K30 capture covers the job. InstaFrame can make a quick flat clip while keeping the surrounding scene, but its automatic selfie selection cannot be told to follow a particular child. Choose X5 instead when selecting another person or faster spherical slow motion matters.

Best fit forA lighter travel setup and quick self-facing clips alongside the 360 recording

Why it fits

  • 165 g body and 2.09-inch touchscreen. Standard package has no microSD card.
  • 8K30 or 6K50 spherical capture. Single-lens video reaches 4K60.
  • InstaFrame 1.0 saves a 1080p flat clip and surrounding footage. Exact surrounding-file resolution is excluded because current manufacturer documents conflict.

Know the trade-offs

  • InstaFrame 1.0 automatically chooses the holder or the largest person. It cannot manually lock the quick clip onto a chosen child.
  • Spherical recording stops at 50 fps below 8K. A card is required, and lens replacement needs tools, calibration and a clean indoor workspace.
Position 4
Insta360 X4

Insta360, CINSABMA-N Black Standard Bundle

Insta360 X4

Still worth checking when you plan to edit the spherical footage anyway. It keeps 8K30, 5.7K60 and 4K100 recording, so a newer Air model does not automatically improve slow-motion flexibility. The trade-off is a heavier body and no InstaFrame mode for saving a quick flat clip alongside the full scene.

Best fit forPlanned 360 edits and faster spherical slow motion when the current price makes sense

Why it fits

  • 203 g body and 2.5-inch touchscreen. MicroSD recording is required.
  • 8K30, 5.7K60 and 4K100 spherical capture. 4K60 single-lens video.
  • Minimum focus 0.6 m. Removable standard lens guards are a separate layer from the optical lenses.

Know the trade-offs

  • No InstaFrame dual-recording mode. Its Me Mode and single-lens video should not be mistaken for a ready flat clip plus the full surrounding recording.
  • 203 g body. Removable lens guards protect the lens, but they are not a verified owner replacement route for the optical lens itself.
Position 5
GoPro MAX2

GoPro, CHDFZ-311-TH MAX2 Accessory Bundle

GoPro MAX2

A practical rival for rides and outdoor footage when built-in GPS and a simpler lens-replacement procedure matter. The selected Amazon accessory bundle includes two batteries, a pole and a card. Its POV and Selfie choices still lead through the editing workflow, and the manual explicitly rules out underwater use because of image distortion.

Best fit forRide overlays without a GPS remote and a camera bundle that includes a card and pole

Why it fits

  • Selected CHDFZ-311-TH accessory bundle includes two Enduro batteries, a 1.2 m extension pole and a 64 GB SanDisk card.
  • Spherical video reaches 8K30, 5.6K60 and 4K100. Single-lens recording reaches 4K60.
  • Built-in GPS supports location, speed and altitude overlays in compatible software.

Know the trade-offs

  • The manual says MAX2 is unsuitable for underwater use due to distortion. A waterproof headline does not change that filming limit.
  • POV and Selfie previews do not establish simultaneous in-camera flat and 360 files. Lens replacement still requires dry, dust-free conditions.
Position 6
DJI Osmo 360

DJI, Osmo 360 Standard Combo, EAN6937224110502

DJI Osmo 360

A good fit when 105 GB of internal recording space, existing compatible Osmo Action batteries or two direct microphones simplify the trip. Plan how spherical files will be edited before recording a weekend of them. The lens is not owner-replaceable, and ordinary body-only underwater filming is not recommended despite the camera’s water protection.

Best fit forA card-free fallback and a filming kit shared with compatible DJI batteries or microphones

Why it fits

  • 183 g. 105 GB usable internal storage, with optional microSD. The two storage locations do not record simultaneously.
  • 8K50, 6K60 and 4K100 spherical video. Single-lens 5K60 and Boost 4K120 are different recording paths.
  • Recommended stitching distance is at least 0.75 m. A nearby face or pet can cross the lens seam.

Know the trade-offs

  • The verified Standard Combo is a third-party Amazon offer. Confirm seller, exact package and US warranty before buying.
  • The optical lens is not owner-replaceable. Dry-use lens protectors are unsuitable for rain, snow or water, and body-only underwater filming has stitching limits.

The choices that matter

How to choose your next 360 camera

Focus on the factors that change which product works best for you.

01

Decide how much editing you will actually do

An 8K sphere is not an 8K flat picture. Some cameras save a ready clip as well as the surrounding recording. Others need you to choose and export the view afterward.

02

Pick the subject before trusting automatic framing

A mode that follows the pole holder may ignore the child you wanted to film. A person-only mode may exclude the dog. Ordinary 360 capture still lets you choose a view later.

03

Include the following day in the plan

Wet microphones need time to dry. Scratched lenses need the right repair procedure. Copy and verify footage before clearing storage, and test one export on the device you will take.
