Our pick

Choose Insta360 X6 when you want a ready 4K clip and the full scene kept for later, especially if the intended subject is a pet. Enable 360 Video Backup. X5 is a good alternative when a quick 1080p clip is enough and the subject is one person. X4 Air suits a lighter, self-facing travel setup, but it cannot manually choose a child for its quick clip.
X6 can save 4K30 flat and 8K30 surrounding footage together and explicitly supports pet tracking. Enable 360 Video Backup, check the tracked subject and copy important files elsewhere afterward. This does not guarantee every moment stays in view.
Choose a 360 camera for family clips, children and pets. Compare quick sharing, who the camera follows, other angles, close subjects and the next-day reset.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current 360 cameras comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
X6 retains a 2160-pixel-high flat clip beside the sphere, versus 1080 pixels on X5 in the corresponding dual-file mode.
Calculation noteThe specified modes save 4K30 flat plus 8K30 sphere on X6 and 1080p 30 flat plus 5.7K+30 sphere on X5. This is output geometry and mode availability, not a measured image-quality difference. Turning X5 backup off permits 4K flat but loses the surrounding recording.

What matters in practice
Choose the person, the quick-clip resolution and the amount of later editing before choosing the camera.
A child can be the main subject while the best reaction happens on the other side of the room. X6’s InstaFrame mode can save a 4K30 flat clip and 8K30 surrounding recording together. X5 offers a 1080p flat clip when it keeps the surrounding scene, while its 4K flat option drops that extra view. The useful decision is whether 1080p is enough for the clip you send tonight. If it is, X5 may cover the family routine without the newer camera. Both files on one camera are still vulnerable to losing the camera, so make a separate copy afterward.
X4 Air’s InstaFrame 1.0 automatically chooses the holder or largest person in selfie view. It cannot manually choose the child walking beside you. X5 and X6 provide subject selection in their supported updated modes. That is a meaningful difference when the purpose is a quick clip of somebody else. Air remains useful if a selfie is the intended result or you are willing to select another angle from the spherical recording later. No model guarantees it will keep the chosen person tracked through crowds or obstructions.
X5’s in-camera tracking explicitly excludes animals and objects. X6 explicitly includes pets. Choose X6 when the pet is often the subject and you want a finished clip without reframing. That does not make X5 unable to record a dog. Ordinary 360 footage still lets you choose the view in an editor. All three Insta360 models here have a 0.6 m minimum focus distance, so a pet investigating the lens is outside the same assumptions as a dog moving farther away. Tracking and close focus are separate questions.
A spherical recording includes the room around the camera, which may contain guests, screens or household details you did not mean to share. Keeping that file for your own later edit is different from sending it to everyone. A flat clip lets you choose a narrower view, but you still need to review the final export for unwanted background details and sound. The camera’s automatic choice is a starting point. It does not know which part of your home or which guest you intended to keep out of the shared film.
X4 Air’s 165 g body is 35 g lighter than X5 and 31 g lighter than X6. Those are body differences before the pole, case and accessories. Air can make sense for a light ordinary travel rig. It can also send you back to the edit if its automatic quick clip followed the wrong person. Compare that small carrying advantage with the time you actually have after the outing. There is no measured fatigue or disability benefit here, and a longer pole changes the handling separately.
Copy and check important footage before clearing a card or internal storage. Return the card to the camera and charge the batteries you will actually take. X6’s 47 GB internal space can rescue a forgotten card, but only when there is room left. A water outing adds drying time. Manufacturer guidance for X5 and X6 warns that microphone sound can remain affected after underwater use, so do not assume one camera is ready for clear evening conversation immediately afterward. Test a short export on the phone or computer you will use before collecting a weekend of footage.

Insta360, CINSABXA Midnight Black Standard Bundle
The clearest fit here for sharing a 4K flat clip immediately while keeping the surrounding view for later. InstaFrame 2.0 can save both together and supports people, pets and objects. Its 47 GB internal space is useful when a card is missing. Water outings still need planning, including the separate dive case, underwater lenses and microphone drying.
Winner whenX6 can save 4K30 flat and 8K30 surrounding footage together and explicitly supports pet tracking. Enable 360 Video Backup, check the tracked subject and copy important files elsewhere afterward. This does not guarantee every moment stays in view.
Enable 360 Video Backup to retain other angles. The extra file stays on the same device and is not an independent safety copy.

Insta360, CINSAAHA-S Midnight Black Standard Bundle
A strong choice when a quick 1080p clip is enough for family sharing and you want the full scene available for a later edit. Updated InstaFrame 2.0 can follow a selected person. Its 4K flat mode drops the simultaneous 360 recording, and its in-camera tracking excludes pets and objects.
Choose instead whenA 1080p quick clip is enough and you want to choose one human. A card is required.4K InstaFrame output drops the surrounding recording, and in-camera tracking excludes animals.
InstaFrame 4K flat output requires turning 360 Video Backup off. With the surrounding recording retained, flat output is 1080p.

Insta360, CINSAAFA Graphite Black Standard Bundle
A lighter camera for a walk or a pole-mounted travel shot when ordinary 8K30 capture covers the job. InstaFrame can make a quick flat clip while keeping the surrounding scene, but its automatic selfie selection cannot be told to follow a particular child. Choose X5 instead when selecting another person or faster spherical slow motion matters.
Choose instead whenYou want a 165 g body for ordinary travel and self-facing clips. Its automatic InstaFrame 1.0 selection may favor the holder instead of your child, and it needs a card.
InstaFrame 1.0 automatically chooses the holder or the largest person. It cannot manually lock the quick clip onto a chosen child.
