Main trade-off
OM SYSTEM OM-5 Mark II body
One card and a 20.37MP sensor. Its high-resolution option combines still exposures and does not create a tall video source.
Head-to-head
OM-5 II saves 73g at body level, while X-S20 records a tall 6.2K source for two edits. Choose OM-5 II for a properly rated outdoor lens kit and supported in-camera close-up work. Choose X-S20 when a planned horizontal take also needs a portrait version, or separate headphone monitoring matters. Both offers exclude lenses and have one card. Fuji’s tall mode stops at 29.97p and disables digital IS. OM’s USB supply cannot prevent shutdown when its internal battery empties.
Before you choose
If a school activity needs a horizontal film for the TV and a portrait clip for family messages, X-S20’s 6240×4160 source can be cropped to 2340×4160 at 9:16 using its full height. That leaves sufficient geometry for 2160×3840 before extra cropping, provided the important action was framed inside both shapes. OM-5 II’s larger 50MP still composite is a different feature and does not supply a movie with that geometry. Fuji’s advantage here is an editable source for a specific delivery job, not a promise of sharper-looking video. The tall mode stops at 29.97p and excludes digital IS, so fast motion or walking can require another plan.
What this is based on
4160×9/16=2340, compared with desired 2160×3840 output. Verified source mode and restrictions, no measured detail or stabilization result.

Main trade-off
73g heavier before the lens. Tall 6.2K is limited to 29.97p, with no digital IS and a separately purchased optional fan.

OM-5 Mark II vs Fujifilm X-S20 for outdoor family days and home video. Compare complete lens kits, portrait editing, power limits and close-up output.
Both are compact stabilized bodies around an enthusiast starter budget. Outdoor stills and a light bag compete with a stronger two-orientation family-video workflow.
Winner by situation
OM saves 73g. Check complete lens weights.
Fuji’s tall 6.2K mode has the needed geometry within its restrictions.
Fuji explicitly provides the direct monitoring route.

OM-5 II can reduce drain from a 5V1.5A USB source, but it stops when its internal battery empties and only charges with the power switch off. A larger bank does not change that behavior. Fuji’s supported power setting also should not be read as a guarantee of unlimited recording. Before a long family occasion, test the chosen mode, card and power arrangement and carry charged spares. For the OM outdoor kit, close the covers and use an appropriately rated lens before relying on weather resistance. A dangling USB connection and the body’s weather rating do not combine into an all-weather powered setup.
OM external-power FAQ and weather precautions, Fuji supported-power setting. No comparative runtime or absolute endurance claim.
Someone who brings home flowers, craft objects or small finds may want a photograph with more of the subject in focus without learning a stacking editor. OM-5 II can combine three to eight focus positions into a JPEG when the exact lens supports it. Leave room for its tighter final crop and keep the object still. That is a different convenience from Fuji’s larger ordinary still file or tall movie. A mount-compatible macro lens is not automatically a supported stacking lens, so check it before buying the body. The 73g body saving only remains meaningful after that actual lens and any support are counted.
491-418=73g, verified OM stacking lens restriction and JPEG/crop output. No claim that Fuji cannot participate in a separate post-processing workflow.
