Main trade-off
ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 2-Pack
The main node has no multi-gigabit LAN port for wired backhaul.
Head-to-head
Choose BT8 when a two-gigabit plan must reach a wired room. ET9 remains a useful fit for gigabit devices and ASUS controls, especially if you already own it and do not need a faster wired link.
Before you choose
BT8 removes the ET9 one-gigabit gateway exit from a 2.5G WAN-to-satellite path.
What this is based on
ET9 minimum WAN/LAN rate = min(2.5,1) = 1 Gbps. BT8 = min(2.5,2.5) = 2.5 Gbps.
Main trade-off
The main node has no multi-gigabit LAN port for wired backhaul.
Main trade-off
Using the fast LAN port for wired backhaul leaves only gigabit ports beside the gateway.

Compare ASUS ET9 and BT8 for a faster internet plan, wired backhaul and local controls. Both have 6 GHz, but their wired paths are different.
Winner by situation
The ET9 gateway only offers gigabit LAN links.
ET9 already supplies the required radio band and link class.
After WAN and backhaul both leave two gigabit sockets.
Both retain the same broad local administration approach.
What matters in practice
BT8 removes the ET9 one-gigabit gateway exit from a 2.5G WAN-to-satellite path.
ET9 minimum WAN/LAN rate = min(2.5,1) = 1 Gbps. BT8 = min(2.5,2.5) = 2.5 Gbps.
BT8 still leaves two ordinary LAN ports after the backhaul cable.
Both have 3 LAN ports. Reserving one for the satellite leaves 2.
Buying BT8 does not add a fourth radio or introduce 6 GHz for the first time.
Both official specifications list 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz.
Check your own setup
Planning to connect your mesh nodes with Ethernet? Count the sockets before you buy. This checks direct cables from the main node to each satellite, without an extra network switch. These choices are examples until you apply yours.
The sockets cover this 2-node wired layout, leaving 1 unused gateway LAN socket. The selected internet-to-device path has a 1 Gb/s link ceiling before overhead, not a promised download speed.
The sockets cover this 2-node wired layout, leaving 1 unused gateway LAN socket. The selected internet-to-device path has a 1 Gb/s link ceiling before overhead, not a promised download speed.
Port speeds are physical link ratings, not Wi-Fi throughput. Cable quality, client adapters and network configuration still matter. All requested nodes must be included in the linked bundle. This assumes router mode with one internet socket and star wiring. PoE units also need a compatible power source, which this socket check does not size. A switch, access-point mode or another layout changes the result. It does not predict wireless coverage.

ASUS, ZenWiFi ET9
A Wi-Fi 6E option for households that want ASUS controls and several wired connections but do not need multi-gigabit room-to-room cabling.

ASUS, ZenWiFi BT8
A two-node choice for a fast wired link between floors while keeping two ordinary Ethernet devices beside each node.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 2-Pack | ASUS ZenWiFi BT8 2-Pack | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| WAN port | 2.5G | 2.5G | Both accept the same fastest internet handoff. |
| LAN ports | 3 × 1G | 1 × 2.5G and 2 × 1G | BT8 upgrades one LAN connection. |
| Wireless standard | Wi-Fi 6E | Wi-Fi 7 | The newer model adds Wi-Fi 7 features. |
| Bands | 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz | 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz | 6 GHz access is not unique to BT8. |
| After WAN and one wired satellite | 2 × 1G free | 2 × 1G free | Both keep the same number of ordinary local sockets. |
| Selected package | 2 units | 2 units | Compare prices for the same number of nodes. |
What you give up
What matters in practice
Both boxes can take a faster internet connection. The difference appears when that traffic must leave the main router over Ethernet. BT8 has the second fast socket that ET9 lacks.
It already has that band. A replacement should solve a more specific problem, such as multi-gig wired backhaul or a Wi-Fi 7 feature supported by your devices.
A TV and console beside the router fit after WAN and the satellite are connected on either system. BT8 changes the speed of the branch, not the number of those remaining connections.
