Main trade-off
ASUS ZenWiFi BT8 2-Pack
Using the fast LAN port for wired backhaul leaves only gigabit ports beside the gateway.
Head-to-head
Choose BT10 for a 10G WAN connection and one 10G wired satellite. Choose BT8 if 2.5G is enough and you need more ordinary wired devices at the main unit.
Before you choose
BT10 raises the fast port class from 2.5G to 10G.
What this is based on
10 ÷ 2.5 = 4. This is a physical interface ratio, not a promised transfer-speed gain.
Main trade-off
Using the fast LAN port for wired backhaul leaves only gigabit ports beside the gateway.
Main trade-off
After 10 Gbps internet and 10 Gbps backhaul are connected, only one gigabit socket remains at the main unit.

Compare ASUS BT8 and BT10 by the cables each node can actually take. See when two 10G ports outweigh the BT8 extra Ethernet socket.
Winner by situation
BT10 provides the needed pair of 10G ports.
After fast WAN and backhaul, BT8 leaves two sockets but BT10 one.
The BT10 satellite retains one 10G socket after its uplink.
BT8 already covers that physical link requirement and has an extra socket.
What matters in practice
BT10 raises the fast port class from 2.5G to 10G.
10 ÷ 2.5 = 4. This is a physical interface ratio, not a promised transfer-speed gain.
After WAN and one backhaul cable, BT8 leaves two sockets and BT10 one.
4 total ports − 2 cables = 2. 3 total ports − 2 cables = 1.
BT10 can reserve one satellite 10G socket for uplink and the other for the PC.
The satellite contains two separate 10G ports, unlike single-fast-port designs.
Check your own setup
Planning to connect your mesh nodes with Ethernet? Count the sockets before you buy. This checks direct cables from the main node to each satellite, without an extra network switch. These choices are examples until you apply yours.
The sockets cover this 2-node wired layout, leaving 1 unused gateway LAN socket. The selected internet-to-device path has a 1 Gb/s link ceiling before overhead, not a promised download speed.
The sockets cover this 2-node wired layout, leaving 0 unused gateway LAN sockets. The selected internet-to-device path has a 1 Gb/s link ceiling before overhead, not a promised download speed.
Port speeds are physical link ratings, not Wi-Fi throughput. Cable quality, client adapters and network configuration still matter. All requested nodes must be included in the linked bundle. This assumes router mode with one internet socket and star wiring. PoE units also need a compatible power source, which this socket check does not size. A switch, access-point mode or another layout changes the result. It does not predict wireless coverage.

ASUS, ZenWiFi BT8
A two-node choice for a fast wired link between floors while keeping two ordinary Ethernet devices beside each node.

ASUS, ZenWiFi BT10
Two 10 Gbps sockets per node make a fast room-to-room connection possible. The trade is fewer spare sockets than on the BT8.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | ASUS ZenWiFi BT8 2-Pack | ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 2-Pack | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast port pair | 2 × 2.5G | 2 × 10G | Both have one fast WAN connection and one fast LAN connection. |
| Other LAN sockets | 2 × 1G | 1 × 1G | BT8 keeps one more physical connection. |
| After fast WAN and backhaul | 2 local sockets | 1 local socket | The BT10 upgrade can introduce a need for a small switch. |
| Satellite after fast uplink | 1 × 2.5G and 2 × 1G | 1 × 10G and 1 × 1G | BT10 favors one very fast endpoint rather than several ordinary devices. |
| Wi-Fi bands | 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz | 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz | Both provide tri-band Wi-Fi 7. |
| Selected package | 2 nodes | 2 nodes | Node count is equal in the linked offers. |
What you give up
What matters in practice
The upgrade makes sense when the ONT or local network and the target workstation support it. A two-gigabit plan and gigabit devices leave much of the BT10 port upgrade unused.
A printer, TV and desktop can consume more sockets than a faster router provides. BT8 is easier for this simple device-count problem. BT10 needs a switch once the spare socket is gone.
With the main BT10 using its 10G WAN and 10G LAN for a satellite, another 10G branch needs a switch. Two fast sockets are not an unlimited 10G distribution network.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current mesh Wi-Fi systems comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
Only 7 of 35 models checked match every need here: “I need 10Gbps Ethernet” and “I can connect the mesh nodes with Ethernet”.
7 matching models from 35 checkedMatch countThe count uses the current product-to-need assignments for “I need 10Gbps Ethernet” and “I can connect the mesh nodes with Ethernet”. A need with no documented match does not count.
