Main trade-off
GoPro MISSION 1 PRO
The maximum frame rates remove full Horizon Lock. Endurance reduces stabilization and video noise reduction, and the larger files still need handling after the shoot.
Head-to-head
Choose MISSION 1 PRO when you need ordinary 4K240 or 8K files and can plan stabilization, storage and editing around them. Full Horizon Lock is unavailable at 4K240, and Endurance mode reduces stabilization and video noise reduction. Keep or choose HERO13 for ordinary 4K120, a lighter camera or close work with its separate Macro Lens Mod. Genuine HERO13 Enduro batteries can serve as MISSION 1 PRO backups, but third-party HERO13 packs are unsupported and the older genuine packs do not deliver all Enduro 2 benefits.
Before you choose
A chest- or hand-mounted camera may roll while someone lands a trick. MISSION 1 PRO can record ordinary 4K240, which gives twice as many captured frames per second as HERO13’s 4K120. On a 30 fps timeline, those rates allow 8× versus 4× slow playback. The catch is that full Horizon Lock is unavailable at 4K240. If a level horizon matters more than the extra slowdown, you need a different recording mode or more work in editing. The new camera does not let you select every headline feature at once. Choose MISSION for a planned shot where that trade is acceptable. Keep HERO13 when 4K120 already produces the clip you want.
What this is based on
A rolling camera mount crossed with documented frame-rate and Horizon Lock exclusions.240÷30=8 and 120÷30=4 are playback-rate calculations, not measured sharpness, shutter-speed or stabilization results. No unsupported HERO13 horizon mode is promised.
Main trade-off
The maximum frame rates remove full Horizon Lock. Endurance reduces stabilization and video noise reduction, and the larger files still need handling after the shoot.
Main trade-off
Ordinary 4K video stops at 120 fps. Its 5.3K120 mode is only a five-second burst, and close focusing needs a separate accessory.

MISSION 1 PRO adds 4K240 and 8K editing room. HERO13 keeps a lighter setup and its lens options. See the horizon, battery and close-up catches before upgrading.
A current HERO13 owner can reasonably want the newer GoPro for a sports trick, a larger edit or a second filming job. The useful decision is which new mode survives all the requirements of that shot.
Winner by situation
MISSION supports that format. HERO13 ordinary 4K stops at 120 fps.
HERO13 is 48 g lighter by published camera weights. Mount compatibility and comfort still need checking.
HERO13 has the verified accessory route. An equivalent MISSION close-focus setup has not been established here.
MISSION excludes full Horizon Lock in that mode, and HERO13 does not record ordinary 4K240.

A long walk can start outdoors and finish under trees or in a dim room. MISSION’s Endurance setting reduces both stabilization and video noise reduction, so it changes two parts of the image-processing setup that may matter during that transition. That does not prove the picture will be poor, but it makes a maximum-duration claim the wrong basis for buying a camera for moving, mixed-light footage. Test a short sample in the actual mode and plan power or battery changes around it. HERO13 has its own mode and heat limits, so this is not evidence that it always lasts longer or looks better. It is a reason to keep the normal recording requirements attached to any endurance promise.
A long moving recording crossed with changing light and the manufacturer’s explicit Endurance processing reductions. No measured low-light or battery comparison, health effect or heat guarantee is inferred.
Someone using HERO13 for both weekend rides and small repair videos may already own genuine Enduro spares and the Macro Lens Mod. The genuine batteries can help during a MISSION upgrade, with reduced benefits compared with Enduro 2. Third-party HERO13 batteries are a different case and are unsupported. The close-up job needs separate thought. HERO13 has a documented 11 to 75 cm manual-focus accessory, while we have not verified an equivalent close-focus route for MISSION 1 PRO. More pixels or a larger sensor does not establish that a small part near the lens will be in focus. Keep the proven HERO13 setup for that job until a replacement is documented, rather than selling every accessory on the strength of the new video headline.
An existing genuine battery collection crossed with a second close-focus filming job and separate accessory compatibility. Unknown MISSION focus distance is kept unknown. No claim that a missing accessory listing proves a feature is impossible.

GoPro, CHDHW-011-MY Black

GoPro, CHDHX-131-TH Black

Meaningful differences
| What changes | GoPro MISSION 1 PRO | GoPro HERO13 Black | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| A fast trick in a 4K edit | Ordinary 4K240 in 16:9. Full Horizon Lock unavailable at 4K240. | Ordinary 4K120.5.3K120 is a five-second burst. | At a 30 fps timeline,240 captured frames can yield 8× slow playback versus 4× from 120, before editing choices. Neither figure proves better exposure or motion detail. |
| Long recording with a moving camera | Endurance reduces stabilization and video noise reduction. | Ordinary recording modes with mode-specific stabilization limits. | MISSION’s power-saving mode changes the image-processing setup. Test the intended mode instead of combining separate best-case claims. |
| Keeping genuine HERO13 batteries | Genuine HERO13 Enduro works as backup, without all Enduro 2 runtime and fast-charge benefits. Third-party HERO13 packs unsupported. | Uses the HERO13 Enduro battery system. | Some genuine spares can stay useful, but a drawer of compatible-looking third-party packs is a different case. |
| Nearby detail at home | Minimum focus and a matching close-focus accessory are not verified here. | Separate Macro Lens Mod gives 11 to 75 cm manual focus, outside underwater use. | HERO13 has a documented close-up route. MISSION’s larger sensor alone does not prove it solves that same nearby shot. |
| Camera weight before the mount | 207 g with battery. | 159 g with battery. | MISSION adds 48 g to the camera. This is a packing fact, not a prediction of comfort or mount safety. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose GoPro MISSION 1 PRO. MISSION supplies the higher ordinary frame rate. Test exposure and the editing workflow before the event.
Choose GoPro HERO13 Black. HERO13 retains those practical advantages. No upgrade is required just to keep doing the same shot.
Choose neither. That combination is not available on either camera.
What matters in practice
Slowing action further and keeping a rolling camera’s horizon completely level cannot always be selected together.
