Main trade-off
COROS PACE Pro
Always-on display reduces the dual-frequency-with-music ceiling from 12 to ten hours.
Head-to-head
Choose PACE Pro for the lighter 49 g silicone package and AMOLED display when its existing maps and storage meet your needs. Choose APEX 4 46 mm for the selected Sapphire/MIP package, supported paired-phone calls and higher published recording ceilings. Both have 1.3-inch screens and 32 GB nominal storage. APEX’s supplied band starts at 140 mm, versus 130 mm for PACE Pro, and neither accepts streaming-service music downloads.
Before you choose
PACE Pro already has downloaded maps, a 1.3-inch display and 32 GB nominal storage. APEX 4 46 mm shares those sizes, so a runner adding weekend hikes should not treat maps alone as the upgrade. APEX changes the display technology, selected lens, call interface and published recording ceilings. Those may matter, but the buyer needs to identify which one changes the actual outing. Both require region preparation and neither map proves a route is open, accessible or safe. If the current map workflow works and the outing fits the tested battery routine, PACE Pro can remain sufficient.
What this is based on
A shift from running to weekend hiking crossed with shared mapping, display size and storage. No claim that feature parity means identical navigation performance.
Main trade-off
Always-on display reduces the dual-frequency-with-music ceiling from 12 to ten hours.
Main trade-off
64 g silicone and a 140–215 mm band. The outdoor upgrade does not enlarge the physical display or nominal storage.
PACE Pro vs APEX 4 46 mm for mapped runs, weekend hikes and calls from a packed phone. Find what the outdoor upgrade changes beyond shared maps.
Both are 46 mm-class mapped COROS watches with a 1.3-inch display, 32 GB nominal storage and local MP3 playback. A running buyer moving into outdoor trips can realistically decide whether the APEX physical and calling changes are worth the extra supplied weight.
Winner by situation
APEX does not enlarge the screen or nominal storage.
APEX’s supplied range starts at 140 mm.
APEX adds the documented call interface.
PACE Pro’s cited ceiling is 12 hours or ten always-on. APEX lists 15 and still needs reserve.

PACE Pro’s supplied silicone band covers 130–220 mm, while APEX 4 46 mm covers 140–215 mm. A 135 mm wrist or a 218 mm wrist is within PACE’s range and outside the selected APEX range. APEX also adds 15 g, about 31% of PACE’s supplied weight. A replacement strap may change the fit, but it must be checked separately and does not remove the case. This matters for a remote purchase or all-day wear. The more outdoor-focused model is not automatically the better physical fit for someone who spends more time outdoors.
Existing fit plus a proposed activity upgrade crossed with exact range endpoints and total weight. Increase is 15/49, about 31%. No comfort or medical inference.
APEX’s incoming-call interface can be useful when the phone stays zipped in a hiking pack and a family member needs to speak. It requires the connected phone, service and the COROS app running. It cannot start a callback. Stop somewhere suitable before answering. That access benefit can justify the upgrade even for an outing well within PACE Pro’s recording ceiling. If a headset already handles calls, it may add little. Conversely, a longer event needs the exact music and display mode, not the 41-hour no-music APEX headline. Keep the communication job and recording job separate before deciding that one new watch solves both.
Family calls plus difficult phone access crossed with voice hardware and simultaneous-feature battery limits. No independent-call, call-quality or safety promise.
COROS, W332
Keep maps and 32 GB nominal storage with 15 g less supplied weight.
COROS, W541
Add the documented phone-call interface and selected Sapphire lens.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | COROS PACE Pro | COROS APEX 4 46 mm | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared local-content job | 1.3-inch AMOLED, 32 GB, downloaded maps and MP3 playback. | 1.3-inch MIP, 32 GB, downloaded maps and MP3 playback. | APEX does not buy more physical screen size or nominal storage in this pair. |
| Supplied fit and weight | 49 g silicone, 130–220 mm band. | 64 g silicone, 140–215 mm band. | The upgrade adds about 31% supplied weight and narrows both ends of the stated range. |
| Long recording | Dual frequency up to 31 hours, 12 with music or 10 with music and always-on. | Dual frequency up to 41 hours or 15 with music. | Display and music settings determine which figure belongs in the plan. |
| Call access and lens | Mineral-glass AMOLED running package. | Sapphire MIP package with incoming calls through a connected phone and background COROS app. | These are the concrete upgrade jobs to assess, not a generic claim that outdoor is better. |
