Main trade-off
JBL Bar 1300X
Rear speakers must be charged between cordless listening sessions.
Head-to-head
Choose the original 1300X if a lower complete-package price and its longer stated rear-battery limit matter. Choose 1300X MK2 for the updated processing package when the wider docked bar and larger subwoofer fit. Both have three HDMI source inputs and detachable rear speakers.
Before you choose
Attaching the rear speakers adds 14.8 inches to the original bar and 14.7 inches to MK2.
What this is based on
Subtract the detached widths from the docked widths. A bar that fits during playback may still be too wide to dock in the same location.
Main trade-off
Rear speakers must be charged between cordless listening sessions.
Main trade-off
Rear batteries need charging and cannot promise all-day playback.
Compare JBL 1300X generations by detachable-speaker charging, docked width, subwoofer footprint and HDMI source count. Both include rechargeable rears.
Both solve the rear-power problem. The meaningful differences are charging expectations, physical storage and the current package price.
Winner by situation
Both include rechargeable rear speakers.
Only the original cabinet-width specification meets that limit.
Both supply three source inputs.
The original cabinet base is smaller.
What matters in practice
Attaching the rear speakers adds 14.8 inches to the original bar and 14.7 inches to MK2.
Subtract the detached widths from the docked widths. A bar that fits during playback may still be too wide to dock in the same location.
Its 15 × 15-inch base is 225 square inches, versus 207.36 for the original 14.4 × 14.4-inch base.
The increase is (225 − 207.36) ÷ 207.36. These are bare cabinet footprints, not minimum room-placement areas.
JBL lists up to 12 hours for the original and up to 10 for MK2.
Different content, volume and settings affect playback time. Use these as charging-plan limits, not a claim that one lasts exactly 20% longer in the same test.
Try your real numbers
Measure the clear space in front of your TV. Count devices you want to plug into the soundbar, not devices already connected to the TV. The numbers below are examples until you enter yours.
It needs 54.2 inches of width with its detachable speakers docked, more than your 48 inches.
It needs 55.3 inches of width with its detachable speakers docked, more than your 48 inches.
Use an open top surface, not an enclosed cubby. Detachable speakers are counted in the docked width. Allow extra depth for cables and the TV stand. This checks physical dimensions and port counts, not Dolby Atmos, 4K/120Hz passthrough or your TV’s audio-format support.
JBL, Bar 1300X
The Bar 1300X is for a living room where rear speakers cannot stay plugged in. Detach them for a movie, then return them to charge. Its large subwoofer and wide docked configuration need careful measuring.
JBL, Bar 1300XMK2
Choose the 1300X MK2 when rear-speaker outlets are the obstacle to a complete surround setup. Three direct HDMI inputs simplify a busy TV, but the detachable speakers bring a charging routine and the subwoofer is substantial.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | JBL Bar 1300X | JBL Bar 1300X MK2 | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bar width with rears detached | 39.4 inches | 40.6 inches | MK2 needs about 1.2 more inches at the TV. |
| Width with rears docked | 54.2 inches | 55.3 inches | Measure the charging configuration as well as the movie configuration. |
| Subwoofer width × depth | 14.4 × 14.4 inches | 15 × 15 inches | MK2 adds floor footprint rather than shrinking the subwoofer. |
| Stated rear battery playback | Up to 12 hours | Up to 10 hours | These are manufacturer upper limits, not a matched battery test. |
| HDMI source inputs | 3 | 3 | The newer model does not increase the direct source count. |
