Main trade-off
TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro
The 25 g cup limits shared batches and the adjustment is internal.
Head-to-head
Choose C5 ESP Pro for one usual espresso dose that fits its 25 g cup. Choose J-Ultra when finer adjustment and its larger grounds capacity will be used regularly. A larger cup does not automatically make two separately dialed drinks into one grinding job.
Before you choose
Two 18 g doses total 36 g. That exceeds the C5’s cup and sits within the J-Ultra’s variable 35–40 g range, so even the J-Ultra is conditional for that combined dose. More importantly, regular and decaf beans still need separate grinding and may need separate settings. The larger J-Ultra capacity has a cleaner benefit for one 30 g shared filter brew. At 60 g/L that makes 500 ml and fits its minimum stated capacity.
What this is based on
TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro: 25 g catch cup. Two assumed 18 g doses total 36 g. 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder: 35–40 g published capacity. A 30 g brew fits the lower bound, while 36 g depends on the beans.
Main trade-off
The 25 g cup limits shared batches and the adjustment is internal.
Main trade-off
The larger capacity and finer dial may add little for one established espresso recipe.

Winner by situation
Both hold the dose. The extra capacity may go unused.
The J-Ultra combines smaller steps with external access.

If one C5 setting runs your espresso too quickly and the next too slowly, the J-Ultra’s smaller burr-position increment gives finer adjustment to explore. Its external ring also helps when two household recipes alternate. Neither advantage guarantees the same flavor, flow or numbered setting across different burrs. If your usual beans already dial in well, the finer mechanism may add little to your daily cup.
TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro: 15-micron internal adjustment. 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder: 8-micron external adjustment. Pitch describes burr travel rather than particle size or taste.
Both handles fold, so an occasional trip does not automatically justify the J-Ultra. Its included case and magnetic cup can make the complete kit more appealing for frequent packing. The C5 remains usable for travel with your own protection. These are package and handling distinctions. No measured torque or grinding-time result establishes that the premium model is easier on your hands.
TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro: Folding handle in the selected C5 ESP Pro package. 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder: Folding handle, magnetic catch cup and included case.

TIMEMORE, C5 ESP Pro Black
A folding hand grinder with fine espresso adjustment. Plan loads of 25 grams or less, following the manual rather than the 30-gram chamber headline.

1Zpresso, J-Ultra
An espresso-centered hand grinder with exceptionally small external clicks, a folding crank and a magnetic catch cup.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro | 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjustment | 15 microns per click, internal | 8 microns per click, external | The J-Ultra offers smaller steps and more direct access. This is not a guaranteed taste improvement. |
| Grounds capacity | 25 g cup | 35–40 g | A 30 g shared filter dose fits the J-Ultra rating but exceeds the C5 cup rating. |
| Handle | Folding | Folding | Folding alone is not a reason to pay for the J-Ultra. |
| Cup and kit | Cup removed for internal adjustment | Magnetic cup and included case | The J-Ultra package changes handling and packing as well as adjustment. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose TIMEMORE C5 ESP Pro. An 18 g example dose fits the 25 g catch cup without needing the larger J-Ultra.
Choose 1Zpresso J-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder. Eight-micron clicks give smaller burr-position steps than the C5’s 15-micron clicks.
