TIMEMORE Bricks 01S
The receiving cup, not the 40 g hopper, limits the published complete dose path to 35 g. Divide larger recipes.
Head-to-head
Choose Bricks 01S when small recipes fit its 35 g catch cup and its narrower body makes a real difference to your counter. Choose Opus 2 when a shared 36 g or 60 g filter recipe should fit both the load bin and standard cup at once. Bricks’ 40 g hopper does not make its 35 g cup larger. Opus also includes a separate 30 g espresso cup for 54 mm and 58 mm portafilters, so remember to use the larger standard cup for those shared filter recipes.
Before you choose
At an illustrative 60 g of coffee per liter of water, a 600 ml shared recipe needs 36 g. That fits Bricks’ 40 g hopper but exceeds its 35 g catch-cup rating. Divide the recipe into smaller batches rather than buying on hopper capacity alone. Opus 2 accommodates 36 g in both its 100 g load bin and standard cup. Its separate 30 g espresso cup is too small for this example, so the larger cup must actually be in place. A solo 18 g or shared 30 g recipe does not create this same capacity problem.
What this is based on
0.6 L × 60 g/L = 36 g. Compare 36 against both input and output limits, not just the hopper. Ratio and water amount are explicit example choices, not serving or taste guarantees.

Main trade-off
The larger 100 g standard cup is not the same accessory as the 30 g espresso cup. Leave room to store whichever one is not in use.

Bricks 01S or Opus 2 for a small kitchen? Compare the complete dose path, shared filter batches and transfer to a 54 mm espresso basket before choosing.
Both are compact electric grinders intended to cover espresso and filter with separately loaded beans. Buyers can reasonably trade a narrower body against larger shared recipes and a more specific espresso-transfer kit.
Winner by situation
Bricks has the narrower published body, with operating space still required.
Use Opus’s 100 g standard cup. The 30 g espresso cup is not suitable for that dose.
Opus explicitly supports 54 mm and 58 mm. Bricks compatibility is unverified here.
Bricks has fixed stops. Opus leaves continuous positioning to the user.

Bricks saves 28 mm of published body width and 56 mm of depth against Opus. If you use a 54 mm espresso basket, Opus’s included compatible cup can remove a transfer question that Bricks’ general catch-cup description does not settle. Before choosing the smallest body, lay out the scale, funnel and cup you will actually use, then check access around the espresso machine. Bricks remains attractive when you already have a reliable transfer routine. We have not measured the total working area or claimed that its cup cannot fit a particular basket.
130 − 102 = 28 mm and 206 − 150 = 56 mm, using published body dimensions. Opus explicitly supports 54 and 58 mm cup transfer. Unknown Bricks cup compatibility is not treated as incompatibility.
Fixed clicks give the Bricks user discrete places to record when two people alternate recipes. If the useful espresso adjustment falls between those positions, Opus’s stepless dial allows an in-between setting. It still needs recording and careful restoration when someone switches to filter. Choose Bricks when repeatable stops fit the way you work and your recipes stay within its cup limit. Choose Opus when fine adjustment and larger shared batches matter together. The two burr systems do not let us predict a flavor winner from the dial alone.
Stepped 10-micron adjustment versus stepless control. This is a mechanical setting consequence, not a measurement of particles, extraction, repeatability error or taste.

Meaningful differences
| What changes | TIMEMORE Bricks 01S | Fellow Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bean loading | 40 g | 100 g | Large recipes can exceed Bricks even before the receiving cup is considered. |
| Grounds collection | 35 g catch cup | 100 g standard cup plus separate 30 g espresso cup | Choose the complete bean-to-cup path, and use the appropriate Opus cup. |
| Published body footprint | 102 mm wide by 150 mm deep | 130 mm wide by 206 mm deep | Opus uses 28 mm more width and 56 mm more depth before operating clearance. |
| Grind adjustment | 150 positions, 10 microns per step | Stepless side dial | Bricks offers fixed stops, while Opus can select a position between its marks. Neither guarantees a better-tasting shot. |
| Espresso transfer | Magnetic catch cup, no exact basket-fit claim verified | Supplied espresso cup fits 54 mm and 58 mm portafilters | A small basket can make a documented cup fit more useful than a general espresso label. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose TIMEMORE Bricks 01S. The larger Opus batch path may be unnecessary.
Choose Fellow Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder. Opus addresses the actual batch or transfer constraint, with the right cup selected.
What matters in practice
The grinder should leave room to cook, but the coffee routine also has to serve another person. Saving body space can create a second grinding batch or a separate transfer accessory.
