Main trade-off
EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max
The 500W continuous limit still excludes most hot-water and cooking appliances. X-Boost does not create a 1,000W full-voltage inverter.
Head-to-head
Choose RIVER 2 Max for short trips and loads under 500W when saving 5 lb matters. Choose RIVER 2 Pro if you need more overnight reserve or want to run a steady load between 500W and 800W. Pro adds 50% more battery capacity, but both cap solar input at 220W, so the larger battery needs more time to replenish.
Before you choose
At 80% usable energy, Max falls about 90Wh short while Pro leaves about 114Wh.
What this is based on
512 × 0.8 − 500 = −90.4Wh. 768 × 0.8 − 500 = 114.4Wh. This is a planning estimate, not a promised overnight runtime.
Main trade-off
The 500W continuous limit still excludes most hot-water and cooking appliances. X-Boost does not create a 1,000W full-voltage inverter.
Main trade-off
The 220W solar input is the same ceiling as RIVER 2 Max despite carrying 50% more battery energy.

Compare EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max and RIVER 2 Pro by overnight energy, steady appliance watts, carry weight and their identical solar ceiling.
Pro brings more energy and output, but it does not bring a larger solar charging input.
Winner by situation
Using an 80% usable-energy allowance, Max allows about 410Wh and Pro about 614Wh.
Only Pro fits that continuous load.
Max saves 5 lb.
Both are capped at 220W.
What matters in practice
At 80% usable energy, Max falls about 90Wh short while Pro leaves about 114Wh.
512 × 0.8 − 500 = −90.4Wh. 768 × 0.8 − 500 = 114.4Wh. This is a planning estimate, not a promised overnight runtime.
Pro adds 60% continuous AC output and about 37.9% listed weight.
(800 − 500) ÷ 500 × 100 = 60%. (18.2 − 13.2) ÷ 13.2 × 100 = 37.9%. Whether that is useful depends on the actual load.
Replacing the extra 256Wh at the shared 220W ceiling takes a loss-free minimum of about 1.16 hours.
(768 − 512) ÷ 220 = 1.16 hours. Actual time is longer with panel conditions, charging losses and tapering.

EcoFlow, EFR610
A 512Wh station that doubles the RIVER 2 battery while staying below 15 pounds. It suits longer electronics sessions and low-draw camping gear.

EcoFlow, EFR620
A 768Wh camping station with 800W continuous AC output and a useful 100W USB-C port. It adds battery reserve without reaching full 1kWh weight.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max | EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 512Wh | 768Wh | Pro adds 256Wh, or 50% more nominal reserve. |
| Continuous AC output | 500W | 800W | Pro supports a larger steady load. |
| Listed weight | 13.2 lb | 18.2 lb | Max saves 5 lb. |
| Maximum solar input | 220W | 220W | Pro’s larger battery shares the same charging ceiling. |
| Solar input limits | 11V to 50V, 13A maximum | 11V to 50V, 13A maximum | The same voltage and current checks apply. |
| USB-C output | 100W | 100W | A compatible laptop gains no higher USB-C ceiling by choosing Pro. |
What you give up
What matters in practice
Choose from the energy needed between recharges and the biggest steady load you will plug in.
For an overnight trip, the useful number is total watt-hours consumed before the next reliable charge. RIVER 2 Pro adds 256Wh of nominal reserve. That can be enough to move a borderline energy plan into a more comfortable range. RIVER 2 Max is the easier carry when the extra reserve would remain unused.
A steady 650W appliance sits above Max’s 500W rating and below Pro’s 800W rating. That makes Pro the appropriate starting point even if the appliance only runs briefly. Check motor startup and actual input watts, especially for devices where the advertised output power is not the same as electricity drawn from the socket.
Both models accept up to 220W solar power. Pro’s larger battery therefore takes longer to replace from a similar state of charge under the same input conditions. A traveler with limited sun may prefer the lighter Max and a realistic daily energy plan, while Pro suits a larger reserve charged before departure.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current portable power stations comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
Only 9 of 50 models checked match every need here: “I want power for campsites and weekends away”, “I need to carry it with one hand”, and “I want efficient power for a 12V fridge”.
9 matching models from 50 checkedEcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro lists 768 Wh for battery capacity, 50% above EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max at 512 Wh.
Match countThe count uses the current product-to-need assignments for “I want power for campsites and weekends away”, “I need to carry it with one hand”, and “I want efficient power for a 12V fridge”. A need with no documented match does not count.
Calculation noteThis compares nominal watt-hour capacity. Real delivered energy depends on inverter losses, temperature and load. 50 of 50 models have comparable published figures for context.
