Main trade-off
Sony ULT FIELD 1
Stereo needs another FIELD 1 and the setting survives power-off. It does not support Party Connect.
Head-to-head
Choose ULT FIELD 1 for the smaller carry or to match an owned FIELD 1 for stereo. Choose FIELD 3 to charge a phone, switch between two connected phones or join Party Connect. Phone charging needs the speaker switched on with enough battery. Stereo and Party Connect turn off its two-phone connection. Both explicitly exclude USB music playback. Check the power supply and cable before expecting a shorter recharge or mains-powered Bluetooth standby.
Before you choose
If the household already owns FIELD 1 and wants separate left and right channels, the documented partner is another FIELD 1. FIELD 3 has its own same-model stereo route and Party Connect, rather than acting as a universal upgrade partner. FIELD 1 also retains its stereo setting after power-off. When one unit returns to a separate room, end that pair in the app instead of assuming Off cleared it. Choose FIELD 3 for its own supported group plan, and accept that its group modes remove two-source multipoint while they are active.
What this is based on
An existing speaker and later solo reuse crossed with same-model stereo, retained state and the FIELD 3 multipoint trade.
Main trade-off
Stereo needs another FIELD 1 and the setting survives power-off. It does not support Party Connect.
Main trade-off
The 1.2 kg speaker adds carry weight. Multipoint is unavailable during group modes and cannot simply be disabled in ordinary mode.
Sony ULT FIELD 1 vs ULT FIELD 3 for shared phones and days away. Compare exact speaker groups, phone charging and the full cable-and-adapter routine.
These adjacent Sony portables are plausible choices for one speaker moving around home and into a travel bag. A same-model partner, phone-power requirement or different charging routine can justify the step up, while both already document occasional calls.
Winner by situation
The documented stereo route requires two of the same exact model.
FIELD 1 is 650 g against FIELD 3’s 1.2 kg, before charging accessories.
FIELD 3 documents this output, with adequate reserve and a dry port required.
FIELD 1 lacks Party Connect and FIELD 3 disables multipoint in that mode.

FIELD 3 can supply the phone running the playlist, which may remove the need to carry a separate backup for that specific outing. The speaker must stay on, low battery can prevent output, and switching it off stops the phone charging. Check that power is flowing in the intended direction, then close the cap after disconnecting. This convenience spends speaker reserve that must be replenished before the next trip. Choose the smaller FIELD 1 when you already have a phone-power plan and do not need FIELD 3’s documented output, rather than carrying the larger speaker just because it is newer.
One battery supplying another crossed with required on-state, direction, reserve and next-use preparation. No number of phone charges is inferred.
FIELD 1’s supplied lead supports 1.5 A, and its five-hour reference refill uses that current with the speaker off. The supported 3 A route needs an appropriate cable as well as the supply. FIELD 3 gives a roughly 3.5-hour reference at 9 V 3 A, while its remote Bluetooth standby separately requires USB-PD mains power. Choose FIELD 3 if those properly powered home and turnaround routines matter enough to accept the 1.2 kg carry. If the speaker charges overnight and is manually switched on, FIELD 1 can fit without buying around conveniences you do not use.
A travel charging kit crossed with current capability, voltage, cable rating and mains-only standby. Reference times remain conditional.

Meaningful differences
| What changes | Sony ULT FIELD 1 | Sony ULT FIELD 3 | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Match a stereo partner | Two FIELD 1 units. Pair setting remains after power-off. | Two FIELD 3 units with current firmware. | Buying up the range does not complete a FIELD 1 stereo pair. |
| Use more group functions | Party Connect explicitly unsupported. | Party Connect and Stereo Pair remove multipoint. | Expanded speaker grouping changes how two household phones can take turns. |
| Handle phone power | Manual documents USB input for the speaker and excludes music through it. | Documented phone output requires on-state and battery reserve. USB audio unsupported. | FIELD 3 provides the verified phone-power route, with a deliberate recharge afterward. |
| Pack and recharge | 650 g. Five-hour reference at 1.5 A while off. Supplied cable supports 1.5 A. | 1.2 kg. About 3.5 hours at 9 V 3 A while off. | A larger power supply and heavier speaker may be worthwhile only if that refill window matters. |

Recommendation switch
Choose Sony ULT FIELD 1. Choose FIELD 1 and plan its cable rating and retained stereo setting.
Choose Sony ULT FIELD 3. Choose FIELD 3, retaining on-state, reserve and group-mode restrictions.
What matters in practice
A larger Sony can add useful power and group functions without becoming a stereo partner for the smaller one already owned.
