Synology DS925+ and UGREEN DXP4800 Plus compared by drive layout, network and processor, best use.
The practical choice turns on network and processor and best use, then on the constraints in your own setup.
Before you choose
For one shared folder, a plan to retain every hourly snapshot for ten days needs 240 recovery points. That fits DS925+’s documented 256-per-folder ceiling, provided storage capacity and the rest of the configuration allow it. Choose Synology when this verified retention arrangement is central to the purchase. Do not assume a faster DXP4800 Plus Ethernet port supplies the same recovery policy without checking its exact software.
Ten days multiplied by 24 hourly points is 240. This is a retention-count check, not a space estimate or a claim that local snapshots replace an independent backup.
If the required backup is 4TB within two hours over one Ethernet link, DS925+ cannot meet the window even at its 2.5Gbps line rate. DXP4800 Plus has the appropriate faster port to investigate, but the source, destination disks and switch must sustain the job. Choose Synology if incremental backups or a longer window reduce that requirement. Choose UGREEN only after validating the complete faster route.
Decimal 4TB multiplied by eight and divided by 7200 seconds requires about 4.44Gbps before overhead. Dual ports are not automatically one faster connection. This calculation supplies a lower bound, never a measured completion time.
Winner by situation
For network and processor, Synology DiskStation DS925+ records “2.5 Gbps network. Best treated as file storage” and UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus records “10 Gbps network. Plex use supported”. This affects connection compatibility and available data paths. A higher label does not guarantee the same real-world result in every setup.
Continuous camera recording needs supported surveillance software and enough storage headroom.
A hardware video engine matters when the NAS must convert compatible 4K files for remote viewers.
Both records list “4 storage bays” for drive layout. Both records show the same result for “Drive layout”, so this row does not separate them.
A small team needs separate accounts, shared folders and dependable multi-user file service.
Growth beyond four drives needs a larger chassis or a supported expansion unit.
