Main trade-off
ASUSTOR Nimbustor 4 Gen2
Four SATA bays limit the full double-parity array
Head-to-head
Choose AS5404T when four SATA bays are enough and the design needs three or four internal NVMe drives. Choose DXP8800 Plus when six to eight SATA drives or native 10GbE are fixed requirements. These enclosures expand different parts of the storage plan.
Before you choose
DXP8800 Plus doubles the SATA count, while AS5404T doubles the onboard NVMe count.
What this is based on
The inventory is eight SATA drives or four onboard NVMe devices. DXP8800 Plus provides eight and two connectors respectively, while AS5404T provides four and four.
Main trade-off
Four SATA bays limit the full double-parity array
Main trade-off
Only two onboard M.2 sockets

Compare AS5404T and DXP8800 Plus for four internal NVMe drives, an eight-disk archive and native 10GbE network requirements.

Winner by situation
Only DXP8800 Plus has eight SATA bays.
AS5404T provides four sockets against two on DXP8800 Plus.
DXP8800 Plus supplies native matching Ethernet ports.
The full four-bay example leaves 24 TB nominal, while eight bays leave 72 TB before overhead.
What matters in practice
DXP8800 Plus doubles the SATA count, while AS5404T doubles the onboard NVMe count.
The inventory is eight SATA drives or four onboard NVMe devices. DXP8800 Plus provides eight and two connectors respectively, while AS5404T provides four and four.
With equal 12 TB drives and RAID 6, the nominal examples are 24 TB for four bays and 72 TB for eight bays.
For full arrays of equal 12 TB drives, RAID 6 capacity is (4 minus 2) times 12 TB on AS5404T and (8 minus 2) times 12 TB on DXP8800 Plus. System space and formatting are excluded.
Native 10GbE makes DXP8800 Plus the direct hardware match, but the advertised port rate is a ceiling.
The relevant threshold is one native 10GbE port for an already compatible workstation path. DXP8800 Plus meets that threshold while the AS5404T native connectors are 2.5GbE.

ASUSTOR, AS5404T
The chassis has 4-bay storage. Its fastest documented network path is 2.5 Gbps.

UGREEN, DXP8800 Plus
Eight SATA bays, two NVMe sockets and dual native 10GbE for a larger drive plan in one chassis.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | ASUSTOR Nimbustor 4 Gen2 | UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Plus | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| SATA bays | 4 | 8 | An eight-drive archive fits only the larger base enclosure. |
| M.2 NVMe slots | 4 | 2 | The smaller SATA chassis has twice as many onboard NVMe sockets. |
| Native network ports | Two 2.5GbE | Two 10GbE | UGREEN exposes a faster link ceiling, conditional on the rest of the network. |
| Installed and maximum RAM | 4 GB installed, 16 GB maximum | 8 GB installed, 64 GB maximum | A workload above 16 GB requires the larger supported memory envelope. |
| Equal 12 TB disks in full SATA RAID 6 | 24 TB nominal before overhead | 72 TB nominal before overhead | Four and eight drives leave two and six data-drive equivalents after double parity. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Plus. DXP8800 Plus has eight base-enclosure bays.
Choose ASUSTOR Nimbustor 4 Gen2. AS5404T meets that socket count.
Choose neither. Neither base enclosure provides both counts.
What matters in practice
Write the drive layout as physical devices before choosing. Eight existing SATA disks point to DXP8800 Plus. Four onboard NVMe drives point to AS5404T. If the plan requires both counts in one base chassis, neither meets that exact connector requirement.
RAID 6 reserves two drive equivalents in either full array. The arithmetic is (4 minus 2) times 12 TB against (8 minus 2) times 12 TB. The resulting threefold usable-capacity ratio is before system space, formatting and metadata. It does not measure rebuild time or replace a backup.
Check the workstation adapter, switch and cable path before assigning value to 10GbE. A Gigabit switch leaves either NAS constrained by that path. Storage performance and the workload can also limit transfers, and two ports do not guarantee one 20GbE session.
