Main trade-off
Fujifilm X-T5 body
Headphone monitoring uses USB-C and the screen does not face forward. Body only.
Head-to-head
Fuji saves 55g with more still pixels, while Canon keeps headphones separate from USB. Choose X-T5 for the lighter stills-led body, especially with X-mount lenses already owned. Choose EOS R7 for compatible Canon crop lenses or a forward-facing screen with direct headphone monitoring. Both are body-only and support configured duplication in eligible modes. Two slots do not guarantee backup in every recording setting.
Before you choose
X-T5’s 7728-pixel still width is about 11% greater than R7’s 6960. That can provide useful crop room if the lens, focus and exposure support it, but it does not turn a short everyday zoom into a long sports lens. An existing Canon owner may gain more practical value from keeping a suitable RF-S lens or qualified adapted EF-S lens than from changing systems for that file-size difference. Fuji saves 55g at body level, with actual lens weight still to be counted. Compare the complete event kit rather than treating nominal megapixels as guaranteed extra reach.
What this is based on
7728/6960≈1.1103 and 612-557=55g. Native lens compatibility and pixel geometry, no measured detail or autofocus equivalence.

Main trade-off
55g heavier at body level. Movie auto-switch stops the take, and special modes can restrict duplication.

Fujifilm X-T5 vs Canon EOS R7 for event photographs and occasional home filming. Compare crop room, two-card settings, sound connections and lens reuse.
Two high-resolution stabilized APS-C event bodies with dual SD slots. Buyers can reasonably choose between a stills-oriented Fuji setup and a Canon crop-lens system that also handles solo video.
Winner by situation
X-T5 is 55g lighter and has larger still dimensions.
R7 combines the forward screen with a separate headphone output.
R7 preserves qualified lens use, excluding EF-M.
X-T5 retains the native mount.

A parent who also records a lesson, a short presentation or a family message needs to see the framing and hear the microphone. R7’s screen faces forward and its headphone socket is separate. X-T5’s screen only tilts and its headphones use USB-C, occupying the port that an ordinary direct power cable would use. The Fuji can still work in a planned setup, but the extra framing and power arrangements deserve attention before buying it for repeated solo recording. A free USB socket on Canon is only a connection advantage, not a promise of unlimited recording or compatibility with every supply.
Screen and sound-connector inventory crossed with simultaneous self-framing, monitoring and power needs. No unverified hub workaround.
Both can write supported stills and movies to two cards when duplication is configured. Sequential overflow, or saving RAW on one card and JPEG on the other, is not the same as keeping two identical originals. R7 also stops a movie before switching to the next card when using its auto-switch workflow. For a long family performance, choose eligible duplicate recording and check space on both cards before it starts. The second card is useful only when the settings match the protection you expect. Copy files off the camera afterward because both cards still travel in the same bag.
Manufacturer card-destination instructions. Eligible modes and card-space requirements retained, no quantified failure probability.

Meaningful differences
| What changes | Fujifilm X-T5 body | Canon EOS R7 body | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large still dimensions | 7728×5152 | 6960×4640 | Fuji offers about 11% more pixels along each edge. |
| Body with battery/card | 557g | 612g | Fuji saves 55g before the separate lenses. |
| Headphone connection | USB-C adapter | Separate headphone output | Canon leaves USB physically free for supported uses. |
