Head-to-head

AprilAire E070 vs Moiswell Defender MP70: AprilAire fits narrow ducted plans, Moiswell pumps to a higher drain

The short answer

Choose AprilAire E070 when a narrow cabinet and planned ducted installation are the priorities. Choose Moiswell MP70 when a built-in condensate pump solves the drain route. Measure the access opening and installation space first. Similar 70-pint names do not make the cabinets or drainage systems interchangeable.

What matters in practice

The differences that matter

A 13-inch square opening is a useful first screen

The AprilAire cabinet cross-section is under 13 inches in both dimensions. Moiswell's is not.

How we reached this conclusion

12.5 ×12.5 inches versus 14.56 ×13.38 inches. Cabinet only, excluding protrusions, turning room and service clearance.

Narrower and longer almost cancel in base area

The cabinet bases are about 313 and 321 square inches.

How we reached this conclusion

12.5 ×25 =312.5.14.56 ×22.05 =321.05. This is cabinet footprint, not ventilation clearance.

The pump hose does not state the lift limit

Moiswell includes 13 feet of drain hose, but the permitted vertical rise is a separate specification.

How we reached this conclusion

The manufacturer separately describes pump capability and supplied hose length. Verify the exact manual for the intended route.

What you give up

Every choice has a cost

If you choose AprilAire E070 Pro

  • There is no bucket or internal pump, so a drain or separate condensate pump is required.

If you choose Moiswell Defender MP70

  • The 206-CFM airflow and compressor are audible in an occupied finished room.

What matters in practice

How to make the call

01

A narrow access opening can settle the purchase

AprilAire's cabinet is 12.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches high. Moiswell is 14.56 inches wide and 13.38 inches high. A13-by 13-inch opening therefore leaves theoretical cabinet clearance for AprilAire but not Moiswell in either upright cross-section orientation. That is a screening calculation only. Handles, feet, turning room and installation clearance must still be checked before ordering.

02

Narrower does not mean less space in every direction

E070 extends 25 inches in depth, while MP70 is 22.05 inches long. AprilAire trades width for almost three more inches of length. Their rectangular base areas are actually close, about 313 versus 321 square inches. A long shallow cavity can favor one layout while a short wide space favors the other, even when both have room for air circulation.

03

Drainage and ducting create different complete-system costs

E070 includes eight-inch inlet and outlet duct collars but has no internal lift pump. MP70 includes a condensate pump and a 13-foot drain hose. That hose length is not the same measurement as the pump's permitted vertical lift. Plan the full route, connections and ongoing access for filter and pump care. Neither is a bucket-equipped portable to move between bedrooms.

Check these before buying

  • Measure the access opening, turning route and service clearance.
  • Have a qualified installer assess any duct connection and drain arrangement.
  • Confirm the Amazon variation remains E070 or MP70 rather than a Wi-Fi or differently rated model.

What this comparison cannot tell you

  • Cabinet screening does not guarantee installation fit or ducted airflow.
  • AHAM and current federal-test capacities are not mixed into a removal-speed comparison.
