Main trade-off
Vantrue N5
The rear module and 20-foot cable require a suitable mounting position and safe route. Two cabin angles do not remove blind spots.
Head-to-head
Choose N5 for rear-road recording and a second cabin angle when its rear mount and 20-foot cable can be installed safely. Check all four views. Choose N2X when front and one cabin view suffice and you want no rear cable. Its optional remote route needs separate regional LT01 hardware, supported SIM, active data, app activation, coverage and matching Vantrue hardwire power. Both need separate storage. N5 LTE compatibility remains unverified. Neither base kit combines rear-road recording with ready-to-use cellular access, and neither guarantees uninterrupted parking capture.
Before you choose
A rear-road view matters even if you only retrieve clips after returning to the car. N5 adds that view and a second cabin angle, provided its rear module and 20-foot cable fit safely. Check all four views with the usual seats and obstructions in place. If front and one cabin view already suffice, that extra installation solves no required task. N2X’s inward-facing camera cannot replace a dedicated rear-road view. Neither arrangement guarantees complete coverage.
What this is based on
The N5 manual identifies four channels and the rear-module installation. N2X’s manual identifies front and cabin only. This supports a difference in available viewpoints, not measured evidence quality or a guarantee that every passenger is visible.
Main trade-off
The rear module and 20-foot cable require a suitable mounting position and safe route. Two cabin angles do not remove blind spots.
Main trade-off
There is no dedicated rear-road view or second cabin angle. Optional LTE does not add either camera.

The phone and LTE icon are illustrative. Remote access needs a separately purchased compatible regional LT01 module, supported Vantrue SIM, active data service, Vantrue app activation, cellular coverage and matching Vantrue hardwire power. These extras are not included in the base camera kit.
Compare Vantrue N5 rear-road and two cabin views with N2X front/cabin recording and optional LTE, including installation, service and power needs.
A passenger-carrying car can have two separate needs: seeing behind and across the cabin, and checking the car while you are somewhere else. N5 adds a rear module with two more views. N2X keeps front/cabin recording in one windshield unit and documents a separate cellular upgrade. Decide which job actually occurs before paying for more equipment.
Winner by situation
N5 supplies the rear-road view and second cabin angle this job needs. Confirm useful framing on all four cameras, a safe rear-module mount and a safe route for the 20-foot cable. Buy suitable storage and power separately. This choice does not establish an N5 LTE upgrade.
N2X keeps both required views in the windshield unit, so there is no rear installation to arrange. Check its front/cabin framing and safe mount, and provide separate suitable storage and power. The optional LTE icon adds no required purchase for local recording.
N2X has a documented optional LT01 route for these front/cabin needs. Budget the separate regional module, supported SIM, active data service, app activation, coverage, matching Vantrue hardwire power and suitable card. A failed power supply or heat shutdown ends access. N5 compatibility is unverified, and N5S is a different model.
Neither extra capability solves a required task here. With useful framing, safe installation, separate suitable storage and power, both can record front and cabin. Compare complete cost and the installation you prefer, without assuming an image-quality winner. Parking remains subject to continuous power, ordinary time-lapse off and Vantrue’s 60-degree shutdown advice.
Neither base kit supplies both a dedicated rear-road camera and ready-to-use cellular access. N2X has no rear-road camera. N5 has the rear module, but this comparison does not establish an LTE upgrade for N5. N5S on the module compatibility list is a different model. If both jobs are mandatory, verify a different complete camera, regional service and continuous-power arrangement before buying.
Neither is a suitable promise of uninterrupted parking coverage without continuous power or when the cabin reaches 60 degrees Celsius, where Vantrue recommends switching the camera off. A hardwire cutoff, loss of power or heat can end recording. LTE also needs power, coverage and active data service. Neither base kit guarantees an overnight recording duration.

A check from inside a building beyond local Wi-Fi range changes the access requirement without changing the required views. N2X’s optional LT01 can serve that job if front/cabin recording suffices and you add the regional module, supported SIM, active data service, app activation, coverage and matching Vantrue hardwire power. Separate storage is still required. If you will not buy those extras, there is no remote advantage. Power loss or heat shutdown ends access. N5’s LTE compatibility remains unverified.
N2X printed page 26 names LT01, and the current module compatibility list names N2X. The LT01 manual separates local Wi-Fi preview from remote LTE access and describes region, activation and power prerequisites. N5S on the list is not N5.
An event lock is a reason to export a clip, not to leave it indefinitely on the card. Both event folders can overwrite older files at 30 percent of capacity, and locking is unavailable with loop recording off or ordinary time-lapse on. For parking, continuous power and ordinary time-lapse off are required. Vantrue recommends shutdown at 60 degrees Celsius. Cellular access cannot preserve recording after a power or heat shutdown, and neither camera guarantees overnight coverage.
The exact manuals establish event-folder overwrite, incompatible settings and parking-power and temperature conditions. These common limits are a check on either purchase, not an additional comparative advantage.

Vantrue, N5
N5 records the road ahead, rear traffic and two cabin angles through front and rear modules. Its included 20-foot rear cable needs a safe route. Add a suitable memory card and continuous parking power separately. N5 LTE compatibility is unverified here.

The phone and LTE icon are illustrative. Remote access needs a separately purchased compatible regional LT01 module, supported Vantrue SIM, active data service, Vantrue app activation, cellular coverage and matching Vantrue hardwire power. These extras are not included in the base camera kit.
Vantrue, N2X
N2X records front and cabin from one windshield unit. The LTE icon shows an optional LT01 upgrade. The base kit excludes the module, supported SIM, data service, hardwire power and memory card. Remote access needs the correct region, coverage and activation.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | Vantrue N5 | Vantrue N2X | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Views supplied by the base kit | Front road, front cabin, rear cabin and rear road | Front road and one cabin view | N5 can record traffic behind the vehicle separately from passengers. N2X cannot turn its inward-facing camera into a dedicated rear-road view. Two cabin angles still do not eliminate obstructions or blind spots. |
| Rear-window installation | Included rear module and 20-foot connecting cable | No rear-window module or connecting cable | N5 needs a suitable rear mounting position and a safe cable route. N2X avoids that rear installation, but still needs windshield mounting and power. Adding its optional LTE hardware is a separate installation. |
| Access when you are away from the car | Local Wi-Fi documented. An N5 LTE upgrade is not established here | LT01 optional cellular route expressly documented | N2X offers a documented route when the regional module, supported SIM, active service, app activation and matching hardwire power are in place. The module list names N5S, not N5. That omission does not prove that every possible N5 upgrade is impossible. |
| Documented full-resolution recording | 1944p front plus three 1080p views at 30 fps | 1944p front and 1080p cabin at 30 fps | The front resolution matches in these modes. N5 adds viewpoints rather than a higher front resolution. N2X separately offers 1440p front at 60 fps with 1080p cabin at 30 fps, not 1944p at 60 fps. No setting guarantees readable plates. |
| Parking operation | Continuous power required. Ordinary time-lapse excludes parking mode | Continuous power required. Ordinary time-lapse excludes parking mode | Choose the actual parking mode rather than assuming all settings operate together. Power loss stops the camera. Both manuals recommend switching off at 60 degrees Celsius in the car, so neither promises continuous hot-car surveillance. |
| Keeping important event clips | Event folder can overwrite old files at 30 percent of card capacity | Event folder can overwrite old files at 30 percent of card capacity | Event locking is not permanent storage. On both, it is unavailable with loop recording off or ordinary time-lapse on. Export important recordings promptly and check parking files too. |
| Memory card and extra equipment | Card, CPL and hardwire kit sold separately. Maximum card size needs confirmation | Separate U3/Class 10 card from 32 to 512 GB. Hardwire and LTE equipment are extra | The N5 listing says 512 GB while its current manual and US support say 1 TB. Confirm the exact firmware and card before choosing a larger one. That unresolved limit is not a reason to recommend N5 for longer retention. Format either card before first use. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose Vantrue N5. Rear traffic and a second cabin angle now justify the N5 rear module. Proceed only with useful framing on all four views, a safe rear mount and 20-foot cable route, plus separately purchased suitable storage and power. An LTE upgrade is not established for N5.
Choose Vantrue N2X. Removing the rear-view requirement makes N2X’s single windshield unit sufficient if its front/cabin framing and safe mount work. Add suitable storage and power separately. Its LTE equipment and service remain optional for this local-recording choice.
Choose Vantrue N2X. Checking from elsewhere favors N2X only while front/cabin views suffice and the separate regional LT01, supported SIM, active data service, app activation, coverage and matching Vantrue hardwire power are viable. Add a suitable card. Power loss or heat shutdown defeats remote access.
Choose neither.
Choose neither.
What matters in practice
Separate the views you must record from the place you need to check them. A rear camera does not supply a cellular connection, and cellular access does not create a missing rear-road view.
