Head-to-head

Flashforge AD5X vs Adventurer 5M Pro: Same 220 mm cube, included colors or an enclosure for ABS and ASA

The short answer

Choose AD5X for compatible four-color prints from its included IFS. Choose Adventurer 5M Pro for the supplied enclosure and the ABS or ASA workflows listed by Flashforge. Both have a 220 mm cube, so the decision comes from materials and feeding hardware rather than a larger printing area.

About this comparison

Compare AD5X and Adventurer 5M Pro for multicolor PLA projects, enclosed ABS work and equal build volume.

Winner by situation

Start with what you need it to do

  • Print compatible four-color signs

IFS is included only with AD5X.

What matters in practice

The differences that matter

Colored labels do not need a larger machine

AD5X automates compatible four-color changes within the same 220 mm cube as 5M Pro.

How we reached this conclusion

Both build envelopes are equal and AD5X includes IFS.

ABS work changes the enclosure requirement

5M Pro supplies an enclosure and lists ABS and ASA in its material table.

How we reached this conclusion

AD5X has the higher nozzle ceiling but its standard configuration is open. Flashforge lists ABS and ASA for 5M Pro.

Oversized parts rule out both without redesign

A 230 mm square part laid flat exceeds both nominal beds.

How we reached this conclusion

The example uses a flat 230 x 230 mm footprint against two 220 x 220 mm beds.

Choice A
Flashforge AD5X

Flashforge, AD5X

Flashforge AD5X

The printer provides 220 × 220 × 220 mm build volume. The print area uses an open-frame layout.

What you give up

Every choice has a cost

If you choose Flashforge AD5X

  • Soft TPU needs the documented single-color workflow.

If you choose Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro

  • The 280 C nozzle requires checking high-temperature filament profiles.

Recommendation switch

The decision flips if...

Four automatic colors are central to my projects

Choose Flashforge AD5X. AD5X includes IFS.

I need an enclosed ABS or ASA workflow

Choose Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro. 5M Pro supplies an enclosure and documented profiles.

My flat model is 230 mm square

Choose neither. Both need a changed design or orientation.

What matters in practice

How to make the call

01

Colored labels do not need a larger machine

If the project is a small sign with colored text, AD5X changes how the colors are fed while preserving the same nominal size limit. Choose 5M Pro when the job is a single material and the enclosure is useful. Color transitions still use one nozzle, so the part design determines the purge and transition work.

02

ABS work changes the enclosure requirement

For ABS housings, 5M Pro starts with the enclosed configuration documented for that workflow. AD5X reaching 300 C does not make its open-frame package equivalent. Check ventilation and the exact nozzle guidance for the material. The built-in filter is useful hardware but does not establish safe room air for every polymer.

03

Oversized parts rule out both without redesign

Neither model solves a 230 mm square flat panel in one piece under that orientation. Splitting, rotating or changing printers is required. Avoid paying for IFS or the Pro enclosure to fix a size constraint they do not change. If the object fits after redesign, return to the material and color decision.

Check these before buying

  • Match the nozzle diameter to Flashforge material guidance.
  • Keep air-management requirements separate from the presence of a filter.

What this comparison cannot tell you

  • No comparative print time, purge amount, noise or emissions measurements were made.
