Main trade-off
Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit
The open frame is a weak fit for ABS or ASA.
Head-to-head
Choose the A1’s larger bed or the AD5X CoreXY layout for four-color work.
Before you choose
The required 240 × 240mm footprint fits Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit and exceeds Flashforge AD5X. This can avoid splitting the flat part.
What this is based on
Assume a square 230mm part with a 5mm brim on every side. Required width and depth = 230 + 2 × 5 = 240mm. Compare each axis with the published build dimensions. Purge towers, supports and machine exclusion zones need separate space.
Main trade-off
The open frame is a weak fit for ABS or ASA.
Main trade-off
The open chassis does not hold ABS chamber heat.

Winner by situation
The required 240 × 240mm footprint fits Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit and exceeds Flashforge AD5X. This can avoid splitting the flat part.
Both A1 Combo and AD5X are open printers without a documented active chamber heater. Four-color capability does not establish suitability for a heated-chamber material profile.
A1 Combo includes four-slot AMS lite and AD5X includes four-color IFS. Both are open printers, and each feeder's material restrictions need checking before a flexible-filament project.
A1 AMS lite and AD5X IFS are different feed systems. Flashforge recommends TPU95A for single-color printing, so a four-color TPU95A design cannot be accepted simply because four spool positions are present.

A simple grid holds 9 footprints on Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit and 9 on Flashforge AD5X. Use this as a plate-layout screen before running the actual slicer.
Assume 60mm square footprints plus 10mm allowance per grid cell for spacing. Count = floor(build X / 70) × floor(build Y / 70). No rotation, supports, purge tower or brim is modeled. This estimates layout, not throughput.

Requirement combines four automatic feeds with TPU95A. The product material-feed instructions are checked separately from color-slot count. No unsupported TPU feeding claim is made.

Bambu Lab, A1 Combo
The printer provides 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume. The print area uses an open-frame layout.

Flashforge, AD5X
The printer provides 220 × 220 × 220 mm build volume. The print area uses an open-frame layout.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit | Flashforge AD5X | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build envelope | 256 × 256 × 256mm | 220 × 220 × 220mm | A one-piece model, supports and adhesion margin must all fit. |
| Bed temperature ceiling | 100°C | 110°C | Check the required bed setting separately from the nozzle setting. |
| Supplied filament system | Four-slot AMS lite included | Four-color IFS included | This changes the accessory bill and material-change process. |
| Structure and enclosure | Open moving-bed printer | Open CoreXY | Allow clearance for moving parts and match the enclosure to the material. |
| On-machine controls | 3.5-inch touchscreen | 4.3-inch touchscreen | This changes direct setup and monitoring interaction. |
| Monitoring hardware | Low-frame-rate monitoring camera | Optional camera | Camera resolution and detection features do not guarantee every failure is caught. |
| Supplied nozzle hardware | Stainless steel supplied nozzle | Interchangeable nozzle assemblies | Check abrasion resistance and replacement assemblies for the exact filament. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose Bambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit. A1 Combo provides a 256 mm cube, adding 36 mm on every axis over AD5X. A 230 mm square plate fits its nominal envelope and fails the AD5X width limit.
Choose Flashforge AD5X. AD5X uses an open CoreXY structure and lists wired Ethernet. Its 220 mm cube and IFS material-feed restrictions must still cover the planned job.
What matters in practice
The A1 gives 36mm more room on every axis. A 230mm plate therefore fits the A1 nominal envelope and fails the AD5X width check before adding a brim.
Both packages support four automatically selected colors. A1 uses AMS lite and AD5X uses IFS, with material-feed restrictions that must be checked for flexible filament.
The AD5X manufacturer lists Ethernet alongside Wi-Fi and USB. That can simplify a wired printer area. The A1 uses the Bambu connection workflow and its moving bed needs clearance through the full travel.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current 3D printers comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
8 of 23 models checked match every need here: “Print functional parts fast” and “Print in four colors”.
8 matching models from 23 checkedBambu Lab A1 Combo with LED Kit lists 16.8 L for calculated build volume, 58% above Flashforge AD5X at 10.6 L.
Match countThe count uses the current product-to-need assignments for “Print functional parts fast” and “Print in four colors”. A need with no documented match does not count.
Calculation noteVolume is calculated from the published X, Y and Z limits. A part still has to fit in every individual direction. 20 of 23 models have comparable published figures for context.
