Kenmore BU4050 is the starting point for carpeted stairs when you also want bagged disposal. Its detachable pod takes the floor base out of the carrying job. Choose Shark NV752 for bagless disposal and its included self-cleaning Pet Power Brush, or Kenmore DU4080 when carrying a complete cleaner rated below 12 pounds matters more than an included rotating pet tool.
Find an upright for carpeted stairs with a detachable pod and the right small tool. Compare carrying, bagged disposal and powered attachments.

What matters in practice
Separate carrying the machine upstairs from cleaning each tread.
DU4080 is documented below 12 pounds for the complete machine, but its selected box has no rotating pet brush. A removable pod on a larger upright can still make the actual stair-cleaning task easier, but its carried weight must not be inferred from the total weight. BU4050 adds bagged disposal. The selected NV752 box lists a self-cleaning Pet Power Brush, not the older Mini Motorized Brush that appears in some family documentation.
12 of the 20 uprights compared have both a documented detachable pod and an included pet attachment. That is one useful combination for stair cleaning. An ordinary upholstery tool can also clean treads, and a fixed upright can reach them through its hose. These features do not establish a stair-cleaning performance ranking.
You may still need one hand for the pod and one for the tool. Keep the cord out of the walking path and follow the manual’s stair-positioning instructions. A long hose does not make it safe to leave a heavy cleaner perched above you on a narrow tread.
