Main trade-off
Yamaha R-N1000A
TV ARC does not accept direct console or player HDMI connections.
Head-to-head
Choose R-N1000A when a computer needs USB audio and the TV already has enough source inputs, especially if you will use YPAO. Choose STEREO 70s when consoles and players need their own HDMI inputs at the receiver. Marantz has six, with the documented high-bandwidth path on inputs 4, 5 and 6. Yamaha has TV ARC only. Both need deliberate Bluetooth headphone settings or output checks before the room becomes private.
Before you choose
A TV used by several console or disc-player owners can run out of suitable HDMI inputs, especially when one socket is occupied by the receiver connection. STEREO 70s moves source switching to its six HDMI inputs. Only inputs 4, 5 and 6 provide the documented high-bandwidth path, so assign demanding sources carefully and use the required signal setting and cable. R-N1000A adds no source sockets at all. Choose Marantz when that shortage is real. If the TV already accommodates every source at its required format, Yamaha avoids changing that working video route.
What this is based on
Several source owners plus limited suitable TV sockets crossed with actual HDMI roles. High-bandwidth use requires a compatible TV, source, 8K Enhanced configuration and certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
Main trade-off
TV ARC does not accept direct console or player HDMI connections.
Main trade-off
Its USB storage and power ports do not act as a direct computer DAC input.
Yamaha R-N1000A vs Marantz STEREO 70s for a room shared by work and TV. Compare real USB computer audio, HDMI source capacity and headphone settings.
Both are full-size stereo network receivers that can combine records, television and music through passive speakers. Yamaha fits a direct computer and measured room setup, while Marantz can take over HDMI source switching from the TV.
Winner by situation
Yamaha has the Type B computer input. Marantz USB is not a computer-audio input.
Marantz has six source inputs. Reserve inputs 4, 5 and 6 for supported high-bandwidth sources and use the correct settings.
Marantz provides Bluetooth Only. Its default also plays the speakers, and HEOS grouping restricts transmitter setup.
Both are stereo receivers. Extra A/B speaker terminals do not create dedicated center or surround channels.

If a computer at a nearby desk needs to play through the living-room speakers without routing audio through the television, R-N1000A offers direct Type B USB audio. Its YPAO setup can also address the documented speaker settings when desks and furniture constrain placement. STEREO 70s does not accept a computer through its USB ports, so plan another usable computer output or an external DAC. Choose Yamaha when that direct cable is needed and the TV inputs are sufficient. Choose Marantz when the computer already has a suitable route and HDMI source switching solves the remaining problem.
Computer work beside shared TV speakers and constrained placement crossed with R-N1000A USB/YPAO chapters and the STEREO 70s explicit computer-USB exclusion. No game-latency or room-result claim.
On STEREO 70s, the Bluetooth transmitter defaults to sending audio to headphones and the main speakers together. Select Bluetooth Only for the documented headphones-only mode, and note that transmitter settings are unavailable while the receiver is grouped in HEOS. Yamaha also leaves speakers playing during Bluetooth transmission and excludes AirPlay, DSD and PCM above 192 kHz. Choose Marantz if its explicit output-mode control fits the intended source and routine. Keep Yamaha in consideration when listening stays shared or a wired route is already planned, rather than buying either on the assumption that pairing headphones silences the room.
A shared evening session, a sleeping household member and possible multiroom grouping crossed with each transmitter chapter. Neither Bluetooth label is treated as a latency or universal source-compatibility guarantee.
Yamaha, R-N1000ABL
Connect a supported computer by USB while keeping MM records and network music available.
Marantz, STEREO70S
Keep several HDMI sources connected when the TV has too few suitable inputs.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | Yamaha R-N1000A | Marantz STEREO 70s | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Console and player inputs | No HDMI source inputs. TV ARC receives two-channel PCM from the television. | Six HDMI inputs. Use 4, 5 or 6 for the documented 4K/120 route. | Marantz can remove TV-port swapping. Yamaha requires sources to reach the TV first. |
| USB beside a work desk | Type B USB computer audio input. | USB storage and accessory power. Computer USB connection is excluded. | A USB socket on each rear panel does not mean the same laptop cable works on both. |
| Speaker setup | YPAO measurements and speaker/sub settings, bypassed in Pure Direct. | Manual speaker distance and level settings. | Yamaha supplies a microphone-based setup route. It still needs the intended playback mode and a real listening-position measurement. |
| Bluetooth output choice | Speakers keep playing. AirPlay cannot transmit. Headphones need volume controls. | Bluetooth + Speakers is the default output mode. Bluetooth Only selects headphones. | Neither Bluetooth logo alone establishes a quiet room. Marantz has a specific output mode to select. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose Yamaha R-N1000A. Yamaha fills the computer connection and offers YPAO without relocating the existing HDMI sources.
Choose Marantz STEREO 70s. Marantz expands source switching while retaining stereo amplification.
What matters in practice
The receiver that expands the television connections does not provide the other model’s direct computer USB route.
