Main trade-off
ELAC Debut ConneX DCB41
Its only analog RCA pair switches between phono and line. No separate auxiliary input is documented.
Head-to-head
Choose DCB41 for a USB laptop and shared television. It adds direct computer USB, HDMI ARC and selectable powered-speaker placement. Choose original YU4 when a turntable occupies the RCA pair and another analog source needs auxiliary, or two optical players must remain connected. Both bodies are 5.5 inches wide. YU4 is 0.5 inch shallower, but its USB only charges devices and its powered cabinet stays on the left.
Before you choose
Both accept a compatible MM turntable, but only DCB41 accepts direct computer USB audio. That helps when a new work laptop has no analog output. Add a second analog player, however, and YU4’s auxiliary input becomes useful because the turntable already occupies RCA. DCB41 then needs switching or another compatible output. Write down all sources, including the older one used only on weekends, before declaring the newer digital connection set more complete.
What this is based on
USB audio plus separate auxiliary presence crossed with a laptop, turntable and additional analog source. No source output is assumed.
Main trade-off

Main trade-off
Original YU4 lacks HDMI and computer USB audio, and fixes the powered cabinet on the left.

DCB41 vs original YU4 for a compact work and record setup. Compare USB audio, source placement and the extra analog player that changes the answer.
Both compact powered pairs accept a compatible MM turntable. Their different computer, TV and secondary-source arrangements create a real choice on the same small desk.
Winner by situation
DCB41 accepts both directly.
YU4 adds the auxiliary path while RCA is occupied.
DCB41 permits channel assignment, while original YU4 stays active-left.
YU4 has two optical inputs.

Original YU4 fixes its powered speaker on the left. DCB41 lets the two channels be arranged around the powered cabinet’s location. If the desk’s socket and computer dock sit on the right, that can reduce the need to route source cables across the desk. The speaker wire still joins the pair. Follow ELAC’s diagram carefully because the L/R switch labels refer to its speaker-output terminals. This is placement flexibility, not a cable-free setup.
Fixed versus selectable active placement applied to a stated right-side source layout. Switch semantics retained from the manual.
A TV and another optical-output player can each stay connected to YU4’s two optical inputs. DCB41 has one optical input, although a compatible TV can instead use its HDMI ARC connection and leave optical free. That means the television’s actual port decides whether ELAC has a source conflict at all. Check ARC support before buying an optical switch or rejecting DCB41 for a problem HDMI already solves.
Two versus one optical inputs crossed with a conditional ARC television path. Actual TV support remains a check.
