Main trade-off
eero 6+ 3-pack
Its two Ethernet ports are limited to one gigabit, so it cannot pass a multi-gig internet plan through the gateway.
Head-to-head
Choose eero 6+ for internet up to one gigabit and the lowest sensible eero cost. Choose eero 7 when a 2.5Gbps internet path, wired backhaul or Wi-Fi 7 clients will be used during the system's life.

There is no 6 GHz radio, so Wi-Fi 7 clients use 2.4 and 5 GHz only.

Dual-band eero three-packs for gigabit and multi-gig homes.
The practical choice turns on wireless standard and ethernet per node, then on the constraints in your own setup.
Before you choose
Suppose the gateway sits beside a desktop and the other two eeros will use wall Ethernet. Neither kit can connect all three branches directly after the modem occupies a socket. Buying eero 7 does not remove that small switch from the shopping list. Choose it for a planned multi-gig route, then match the switch and desktop adapter to that route.
Each gateway has two sockets. One modem connection leaves one LAN connection, while this layout needs three. The switch must sit downstream of the gateway.
For an office already wired through a gigabit switch, replacing only the mesh with eero 7 leaves the desktop path at gigabit. Keep 6+ if that path meets the job and no other requirement changes. Choose 7 when you will also remove the slower intermediary, especially for local transfers to a compatible faster NAS. This is a wiring decision, not a promised Wi-Fi speed increase.
The route is limited by its slowest Ethernet segment. A 2.5GbE port connected through a 1GbE switch still has a 1GbE segment.
Winner by situation
For ethernet per node, eero 6+ 3-pack records “Two 1Gbps ports” and eero 7 3-pack records “Two 2.5Gbps ports”. For ethernet per node, this affects connection compatibility and available data paths. A higher label does not guarantee the same real-world result in every setup.
Its WAN and backhaul ports can keep more than one gigabit from being trapped at the gateway.
It supports Wi-Fi 7 features such as multi-link operation with compatible clients and firmware.
A compact two or three-node layout provides enough placement flexibility without paying for oversized radio hardware.
For wireless standard, eero 6+ 3-pack records “Dual-band Wi-Fi 6” and eero 7 3-pack records “Dual-band Wi-Fi 7”. For wireless standard, this affects connection compatibility and available data paths. A higher label does not guarantee the same real-world result in every setup.
It includes documented family controls, with any paid tiers identified in the tradeoffs.
Check your own setup
Planning to connect your mesh nodes with Ethernet? Count the sockets before you buy. This checks direct cables from the main node to each satellite, without an extra network switch. These choices are examples until you apply yours.
The gateway cannot give your internet connection, 1 direct node link and 1 wired device separate sockets at the selected speeds. A suitable external switch may change that.

Port speeds are physical link ratings, not Wi-Fi throughput. Cable quality, client adapters and network configuration still matter. All requested nodes must be included in the linked bundle. This assumes router mode with one internet socket and star wiring. PoE units also need a compatible power source, which this socket check does not size. A switch, access-point mode or another layout changes the result. It does not predict wireless coverage.

eero, R010311
A dual-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh with gigabit Ethernet, 160 MHz channels and an Alexa smart-home hub.

eero, P013111
A dual-band BE5000 mesh with Wi-Fi 7 MLO and two 2.5Gbps ports on every node.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | eero 6+ 3-pack | eero 7 3-pack | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wireless standard | Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 | Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 | For wireless standard, this affects connection compatibility and available data paths. A higher label does not guarantee the same real-world result in every setup. |
| Ethernet per node | Two 1Gbps ports | Two 2.5Gbps ports | For ethernet per node, this affects connection compatibility and available data paths. A higher label does not guarantee the same real-world result in every setup. |
| 6 GHz | No | No | Both records show the same result for “6 GHz”, so this row does not separate them. |
