Main trade-off
TP-Link Deco X50-PoE 3-Pack
PoE operation requires a compatible switch or injector, not just Ethernet cabling.
Head-to-head
Choose X50-PoE when the best node location has an Ethernet cable but no nearby power outlet, especially for a supported ceiling or wall mount. Choose BE25 when shelf locations already have power and Wi-Fi 7 clients are part of the plan. Both belong to Deco, so the power route can matter more than replacing every existing node.
Before you choose
X50-PoE can solve a ceiling location without a nearby mains socket, but the upstream switch or injector must actually provide compatible 802.3at PoE. An ordinary data-only switch does not power it.
What this is based on
X50-PoE lists 802.3at and DC power. PoE capability is required at the power source, not created by an Ethernet wall plate.

PoE operation requires a compatible switch or injector, not just Ethernet cabling.
Main trade-off
A separate power connection is required at each node.

Compare Deco X50-PoE and BE25 three-packs for a ceiling location without an outlet, a renter's shelf setup and wired backhaul.

Winner by situation
X50-PoE accepts compatible PoE. BE25 still needs its separate power supply.
BE25 avoids buying a PoE source for a location that already has power.
A data-only switch does not supply the power either installation needs.
Both exact models are dual-band.
What matters in practice
X50-PoE can solve a ceiling location without a nearby mains socket, but the upstream switch or injector must actually provide compatible 802.3at PoE. An ordinary data-only switch does not power it.
X50-PoE lists 802.3at and DC power. PoE capability is required at the power source, not created by an Ethernet wall plate.
A wall or ceiling node needs an approved mounting surface and a safe cable route. X50-PoE's mounting design is useful when those are already available.
Manufacturer placement designs differ. Rental permission and cable availability are explicit installation assumptions.
Both models can join other Deco units. A mixed setup can therefore put a PoE node in the awkward ceiling location while keeping BE25 or older powered nodes elsewhere.
Both are dual-band and Deco-compatible. A mixed mesh preserves family compatibility rather than upgrading every radio to Wi-Fi 7.
Check your own setup
Planning to connect your mesh nodes with Ethernet? Count the sockets before you buy. This checks direct cables from the main node to each satellite, without an extra network switch. These choices are examples until you apply yours.
The gateway cannot give your internet connection, 1 direct node link and 1 wired device separate sockets at the selected speeds. A suitable external switch may change that.
The gateway cannot give your internet connection, 1 direct node link and 1 wired device separate sockets at the selected speeds. A suitable external switch may change that.
Port speeds are physical link ratings, not Wi-Fi throughput. Cable quality, client adapters and network configuration still matter. All requested nodes must be included in the linked bundle. This assumes router mode with one internet socket and star wiring. PoE units also need a compatible power source, which this socket check does not size. A switch, access-point mode or another layout changes the result. It does not predict wireless coverage.

TP-Link, Deco X50-PoE
Places Deco coverage on a ceiling or wall using a network cable for power. The current dual-2.5G version keeps that cable from being a gigabit bottleneck.

TP-Link, Deco BE25
A dual-band BE5000 mesh with Wi-Fi 7 MLO and two 2.5Gbps ports per node.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | TP-Link Deco X50-PoE 3-Pack | TP-Link Deco BE25 3-pack | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power route | 802.3at PoE or included DC adapter | Separate power adapter | PoE can carry power and data over the same installed cable. |
| Placement design | Ceiling, wall or tabletop installation | Tabletop tower | Mounting permission and cable route become buying constraints. |
| Wireless generation | Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 | Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 | Neither is a 6GHz system. |
| Mesh family | Other Deco models | Other Deco models | A mixed Deco installation can use each model where its form is useful. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose TP-Link Deco X50-PoE 3-Pack. X50-PoE can receive power and data through that cable.
Choose TP-Link Deco BE25 3-pack. BE25 serves that setup without adding PoE hardware.
What matters in practice
X50-PoE can solve a ceiling location without a nearby mains socket, but the upstream switch or injector must actually provide compatible 802.3at PoE. An ordinary data-only switch does not power it. Choose X50-PoE when that cable and power source are part of the installation. Choose BE25 when the planned shelf already has mains power and buying PoE hardware would solve no real placement problem.
A wall or ceiling node needs an approved mounting surface and a safe cable route. X50-PoE's mounting design is useful when those are already available. BE25 fits a powered tabletop location without using a ceiling mount. Choose the unit whose intended position you can actually use, since mounting hardware does not establish permission to drill or guarantee that the chosen location will have the best radio coverage.
Both models can join other Deco units. A mixed setup can therefore put a PoE node in the awkward ceiling location while keeping BE25 or older powered nodes elsewhere. Choose X50-PoE for that location-specific job, or BE25 when Wi-Fi 7 support is the reason for the new unit. Neither choice adds 6GHz, and each retained node keeps its own radio capabilities.
