Best for this need
Our pick
Choose Epson ET-4950 when both sides of suitable Letter or A4 originals need archiving. Choose HP Smart Tank 6001 for long two-sided PDFs with little scanning, HP 7603 when one-sided forms and larger print output share the job, or Canon GX6120 for larger one-sided scan stacks. Automatic two-sided printing alone does not capture the backs of originals.
ET-4950 automates both sides of suitable Letter or A4 originals as well as supported duplex printing. Legal originals scan one side at a time. Its 30-sheet output still needs collection during a long print job, and photos or fragile originals need the glass.
Choose a tank printer around incoming forms and outgoing PDFs. Compare automatic two-sided scanning, physical sheet counts and output collection.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current ink-tank printers comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
A 60-sheet finished job exceeds ET-4950’s output rating but fits within HP 6001’s listed capacity.
Calculation noteA 120-page PDF at one page per side produces 60 physical sheets in duplex mode, with no extra blanks. Compare 60 with published output capacities of 30 and 100. This does not predict jams, curl or unattended reliability.

What matters in practice
Start with where the document comes from, then follow it to the finished file or paper stack.
A printer can turn blank paper automatically while its document feeder scans only one side. That is useful for a downloaded worksheet but incomplete for an already printed two-sided form. ET-4950 documents automatic both-side scanning for Letter and A4. The HP 7603 and Canon GX6120 feeders are single-sided. Decide whether the recurring interruption is turning output paper, turning originals or placing individual sheets on a glass.
A 120-page PDF printed with one page per side and no extra blank sheets produces 60 physical sheets when duplex is enabled. That exceeds ET-4950’s 30-sheet output but fits within the HP 6001 and 7603 ratings of 100. This is a capacity calculation, not a guarantee that a job can be left unattended. Paper curl, settings and other users’ finished work still matter. Loaded input paper is a separate limit.
ET-4950’s feeder drops from 30 Letter or A4 originals to 10 Legal originals, and Legal scanning is single-sided. GX6120 accepts 50 Letter or 10 Legal originals, also single-sided. A household filing longer forms should count the actual originals and their backs before choosing on the largest feeder number. Their Letter-size glass does not provide a complete flatbed route for a fragile 8.5 by 14 inch original.
Photos, delicate originals, labels, thermal paper and other unsuitable materials need the appropriate flatbed method instead of being pushed through a feeder. Remove staples and follow the exact manual for ordinary loose pages. A large family archive can contain mixed materials, so sort the stack first. Automatic scanning is useful only for the part of that archive the feed mechanism is designed to handle.
After scanning, the file still needs checking for missing backs, rotated pages and legibility, then saving where the right person can find it. An automatic feeder removes a physical handling step but does not establish a secure storage or sharing process. Test the intended computer, app and network before a deadline. If a separate duplex scanner already handles this well, a print-focused model such as HP 6001 may be a more useful addition than another single-sided feeder.
4 options
Epson, C11CL40201
A useful home-office choice when two-sided Letter paperwork keeps piling up. It automates both printing and feeder scanning at Letter or A4, unlike many printers advertising duplex only for output. Legal originals lose that two-sided scanning convenience. Its 250-sheet input also feeds a much smaller 30-sheet output, so large jobs still need collection.
Winner whenET-4950 automates both sides of suitable Letter or A4 originals as well as supported duplex printing. Legal originals scan one side at a time. Its 30-sheet output still needs collection during a long print job, and photos or fragile originals need the glass.
Automatic two-sided scanning and printing are limited to Letter and A4. Legal handling is different.

HP, 2H0B9A#B1H
A useful step up for digital handouts rather than physical paperwork. Automatic duplex and 100-sheet output let more of a plain-paper job run between visits than on the 5101. The listed black ISO speed is the same, so the gain comes from handling the job with fewer interventions. It still has no feeder for a stack that arrives on paper.
Choose instead whenThe recurring task starts as a digital PDF. Automatic duplex and 100-sheet output reduce paper turns and collection interruptions, but the flatbed has no feeder for incoming forms.
Flatbed only, no Ethernet and one main paper source.

HP, 9B5D1A#B1H
A shared home-office model for longer print jobs and ordinary one-sided form stacks. Its 250-sheet input, 100-sheet output, Ethernet and fax support that routine. The feeder does not automatically scan both sides, so a family archiving double-sided paperwork should compare that step separately. Its front USB port prints JPEG files, not every document format a memory stick can carry.
Choose instead whenMostly one-sided originals arrive alongside longer print batches. It combines a 35-sheet single-sided feeder with 100-sheet output, Ethernet and fax. The backs still need manual handling.
Single-sided feeder scanning and Letter-size glass.
Canon, 6882C002
A document-focused all-in-one for larger stacks of one-sided originals and frequent printing. Its 50-sheet Letter feeder and two paper sources make sense when work forms and family projects share the printer. The 50-sheet headline shrinks to 10 with Legal originals. It also does not capture both sides automatically, so a smaller duplex feeder can be more useful for the right paperwork.
Choose instead whenLarger suitable one-sided packets need scanning. The feeder takes 50 Letter or 10 Legal originals, but it does not automatically scan their backs and the glass is Letter-size.
Single-sided feeder scanning, despite automatic duplex printing.
