Main trade-off
XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro
Its 4100 ISO-lumen claim leaves less advertised brightness headroom than the Max for larger images or rooms with some lights on.
Head-to-head
Choose the JMGO N3 Ultimate if a 120-inch picture must work from a lens position around 9.5 or 14 feet away. Choose the HORIZON 20 Pro when your position falls inside its roughly 10.5 to 13.1-foot range and its optical or analog audio outputs help your setup. The JMGO's higher published output adds headroom, but its film-motion caveat still matters.
Before you choose
At 120 inches, both 9.5 feet and 14 feet sit outside the Pro's optical range.
What this is based on
Required ratios are 1.09 and 1.606. N3 covers 0.88 to 1.7. The Pro covers 1.2 to 1.5.

Main trade-off
Independent testing found that 24 fps movie motion can look choppy.

HORIZON 20 Pro vs JMGO N3 Ultimate compared through screen distance, brightness headroom, audio connections and optical setup trade-offs.

Winner by situation
A 120-inch 16:9 picture at 9.5 feet needs about a 1.09 ratio. N3 Ultimate covers it, while Horizon 20 Pro starts at 1.2.
At 14 feet, the same picture needs about a 1.61 ratio. N3 reaches 1.7, while Horizon 20 Pro stops at 1.5.
Horizon 20 Pro lists an optical audio output. N3 lists eARC, so an optical-only amplifier needs another connection path.
N3 testing reports film-motion concerns. The Max's September firmware retest is not evidence that Horizon 20 Pro has the same behavior, so check the exact Pro firmware and playback mode.
What matters in practice
At 120 inches, both 9.5 feet and 14 feet sit outside the Pro's optical range.
Required ratios are 1.09 and 1.606. N3 covers 0.88 to 1.7. The Pro covers 1.2 to 1.5.
N3 offers roughly 7.15 feet of optical distance range versus 2.61 feet.
104.59 × (1.7 - 0.88) ÷ 12 = 7.15 feet. 104.59 × (1.5 - 1.2) ÷ 12 = 2.61 feet.
The newer release notes supersede the old restriction for autofocus and image correction. Check the installed software before deciding that an offset shelf requires giving up these two functions. Eye protection remains a separate check.
V1.4.163 adds autofocus and automatic image correction after lens shift. Check the installed firmware. The release notes do not explicitly restore eye protection or wall-color adaptation.
Try your real numbers
The result checks hard limits only. Preferences stay out of the calculation.
For a 120-inch 16:9 picture, the calculated lens range is about 10.46 to 13.07 ft. Your input is 9.50 ft.
For a 120-inch 16:9 picture, the calculated lens range is about 7.67 to 14.82 ft. Your input is 9.50 ft.
Distance is measured from the lens to the screen. The calculation uses a 16:9 image and the verified optical throw range for each exact model.

XGIMI, XR14A
The middle HORIZON 20 model keeps the Max model's optical placement controls, triple-laser color and gaming support.

JMGO, N3 Ultimate
A very bright triple-laser projector with an unusually broad optical zoom and four-way lens shift for large screens.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro | JMGO N3 Ultimate | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120-inch optical distance | About 10.5 to 13.1 ft | About 7.7 to 14.8 ft | JMGO can fit short and long positions that are outside the Pro's optical range. |
| Throw ratio | 1.2 to 1.5 | 0.88 to 1.7 | N3's advantage is usable placement range, not just a zoom label. |
| Published ISO brightness | 4100 lumens | 5800 lumens | JMGO's claim is about 41.5% higher, without proving a calibrated brightness ratio. |
| Audio connections | eARC plus optical and analog audio outputs | eARC listed | The Pro can suit older sound systems without an additional HDMI audio device. |
| Optical shift and auto setup | Autofocus and image correction after lens shift require the updated firmware | Motorized optics and automatic setup provided | XGIMI V1.4.163 adds autofocus and automatic image correction after lens shift. Confirm the installed software rather than relying on the launch restriction. |
| Movie-motion warning | No performance claim transferred from Max here | Independent testing found uneven film motion | A high-refresh gaming feature does not establish smooth 24 fps film playback. |
What you give up
What matters in practice
When the lens cannot move, a projector outside the needed throw range is the wrong purchase regardless of brightness. At 11 feet both models fit a 120-inch image. At 9.5 or 14 feet, N3 provides the optical option.
5800 versus 4100 ISO lumens is a substantial difference in manufacturer claims. It is useful headroom for planning, not a promise that the projected image will be 41.5% brighter in your preferred accurate picture modes.
A wider lens range solves placement. It does not fix motion processing. N3's independent test found judder in films, so watch slow pans from your usual apps before treating it as a movie-first upgrade.
What the facts say
Useful conclusions from the current home projectors comparison, followed by the checked facts used to reach them.
Only 24 of 90 models checked match every need here: “My shelf or ceiling mount position is fixed”, “I want a picture 120 inches or larger”, and “Some lights will stay on while I watch”.
24 matching models from 90 checkedJMGO N3 Ultimate lists 5,800 ISO lm for published ISO brightness, 41% above XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro at 4,100 ISO lm.
Match countThe count uses the current product-to-need assignments for “My shelf or ceiling mount position is fixed”, “I want a picture 120 inches or larger”, and “Some lights will stay on while I watch”. A need with no documented match does not count.
Calculation noteOnly ISO-lumen figures are included. ANSI and manufacturer-only lumen labels are kept out of this median. 44 of 90 models have comparable published figures for context.
