Main trade-off
XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K
The shorter throw is useful near the screen, but a 120-inch picture at 12 feet needs digital shrinking or a closer position. There is no built-in battery.
Head-to-head
Choose Elfin Flip 4K for regular room changes or a 120-inch picture from about 9.5 feet. Choose HORIZON 20 for a 12-foot position, Dolby Vision or an offset shelf within its combined lens-shift limits. Distances are measured from the lens. HORIZON’s V1.4.163 update restores autofocus and image correction after lens shift, so its older all-manual restriction should no longer decide this purchase.
Before you choose
Imagine a shared living room where a 120-inch screen stays on the wall but the projector table has to move forward so people can pass behind it. At 9.5 feet from lens to screen, Elfin can fill the screen optically. HORIZON cannot reach that size from the same position. If you can place the lens at 12 feet, the choice reverses for an optical 120-inch fit. Decide where the body and power cable can stay without obstructing the room, then choose the lens. HORIZON’s higher light-output claim cannot recover a picture its throw range cannot make.
What this is based on
16:9 width = 120 × 16 / √337 = 104.59 inches. Distance = width × throw / 12. Elfin 8.54 to 11.33 ft, HORIZON 10.46 to 13.07 ft. Assumes a perpendicular image before digital correction, with installation tolerance still required.

The shorter throw is useful near the screen, but a 120-inch picture at 12 feet needs digital shrinking or a closer position. There is no built-in battery.
Main trade-off
The body weighs 4.8 kg. Full horizontal and vertical lens-shift limits are not available together, and the firmware notes do not establish restored eye protection after shifting.

Elfin Flip 4K vs HORIZON 20 for shared rooms, side shelves and gaming. Compare real placement limits, firmware changes and what the 1 ms claims require.
These are two ways to bring XGIMI 4K streaming into a living room: a small folding projector you put away, or a larger model you leave installed. The choice turns on the furniture and viewing routine before the brightness headline.
Winner by situation
Elfin covers the required optical throw. HORIZON would need a farther lens position or smaller picture.
HORIZON fits optically. Elfin would need digital shrinking or a closer position.
Elfin has a folding 1.55 kg body. Both still require power and a stable position.
HORIZON lists Dolby Vision. Elfin’s documented format list is HDR10 and HLG.
HORIZON’s two headline shift limits are not simultaneously available. Elfin has no equivalent optical shift.
What matters in practice

Putting HORIZON on a permanent shelf can keep its heavier body off the table. Its full 45 percent horizontal shift is available only at zero vertical shift, though. A shelf that is both high and far to one side may exceed the combined range even when each individual headline looks sufficient. The V1.4.163 update restores autofocus and image correction after shifting, so the old manual-focus penalty is outdated. Elfin is easier to put away, but tilting and digitally correcting its picture is a different solution. For either model, keep the beam and cables out of normal traffic and follow the eye-safety instructions. A sensor is not permission to look into the lens.
Bounded placement consequence of combined-axis limits and the newer release notes. No claim that either projector is childproof, pet-safe or guaranteed to fit a particular shelf.
Both 1 ms headlines require auto keystone to be off. If the only convenient gaming position needs automatic correction, do not select either projector by that number. HORIZON’s optical shift may help align an image without that correction when the installation fits its limits. Elfin can instead suit a closer, centered table. HORIZON’s 1 ms claim is at 1080p240 and Elfin’s at 1080p120, so the identical headline is not evidence of an identical game experience. At 4K60, HORIZON publishes a separate 3 ms condition.
Mode restrictions crossed with an off-center room and a conditional gaming requirement. No independent input-lag measurement or quantified keystone penalty is asserted.
Try your real numbers
The result checks hard limits only. Preferences stay out of the calculation.
For a 120-inch 16:9 picture, the calculated lens range is about 8.54 to 11.33 ft. Your input is 9.50 ft.
For a 120-inch 16:9 picture, the calculated lens range is about 10.46 to 13.07 ft. Your input is 9.50 ft.
Distance is measured from the lens to the screen. The calculation uses a 16:9 image and the verified optical throw range for each exact model.

XGIMI, Elfin Flip 4K
You need to clear the room after watching and have a powered lens position around 9.5 feet from a 120-inch screen.

XGIMI, XR13A
Your 120-inch lens position is around 12 feet away, beyond Elfin’s optical range.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K | XGIMI HORIZON 20 | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120-inch 16:9 optical distance | About 8.5 to 11.3 feet | About 10.5 to 13.1 feet | A 9.5-foot table favors Elfin. A 12-foot shelf favors HORIZON. These are lens distances before digital correction. |
| Changing room after dinner | 1.55 kg body with folding stand | 4.8 kg body with adjustable stand | Elfin removes about 3.25 kg from the body you carry. Power cables and accessories still travel separately. |
| High shelf away from the center | Tilt and digital image correction | Optical lens shift, with full horizontal range only at zero vertical shift | HORIZON offers another placement route, but a high side corner still needs a combined-axis check. |
| Autofocus after optical shift | Autofocus, without HORIZON’s optical-shift mechanism | Added by V1.4.163 after lens shift | The older blanket restriction is superseded for autofocus and image correction. Other functions need separate checks. |
| Fast gaming conditions | 1 ms at 1080p120, VRR on, auto keystone off | 1 ms at 1080p240 or 3 ms at 4K60, VRR on, auto keystone off | Resolution, refresh rate and correction mode must match the claim. |
| HDR and output claims | HDR10 and HLG, 1,600 ISO lumens | Dolby Vision and HDR10+, 3,200 ISO lumens | HDR-format support can decide a movie setup. The lumen claims are not matched calibrated-room measurements. |
What you give up
Recommendation switch
Choose XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K. Elfin covers that optical position while HORIZON does not.
Choose XGIMI HORIZON 20. HORIZON provides those routes with its placement and source requirements checked.
Choose neither. Both 1 ms claims require auto keystone off.
What matters in practice
You want a big movie picture without leaving a projector in the family’s walking space. Moving the lens toward the wall can solve the floor problem but stop the larger HORIZON from filling the screen.
