Main trade-off
Gaggia Magenta Plus
Milk drinks require manual steaming.
Head-to-head
Choose the Magenta Prestige if you want the machine to make the milk part of a cappuccino for you. Choose the Magenta Plus if you enjoy steaming milk and practicing latte art while the machine handles grinding and brewing. Both have the same 8.8-inch width and 1.8 L tank, so milk workflow is the real decision.
Before you choose
Both have a rectangular footprint of about 150.5 square inches. This compares the body dimensions, not the space needed to swing a wand or handle a carafe.
What this is based on
8.8 × 17.1 = 150.48 in² for each. Working clearances are additional.
Main trade-off
Milk drinks require manual steaming.
Main trade-off
It has no separate household user profiles.

Compare Magenta Plus RI8700 and Prestige RI8702 for milk technique, carafe cleanup, recipe choice and the shared narrow bean-to-cup body.
Winner by situation
Prestige prepares milk automatically.
Plus has a manual wand rather than a fixed carafe routine.
Both bodies are 8.8 inches wide before working clearance.
Neither selected Magenta has separate user profiles.
What matters in practice
Both have a rectangular footprint of about 150.5 square inches. This compares the body dimensions, not the space needed to swing a wand or handle a carafe.
8.8 × 17.1 = 150.48 in² for each. Working clearances are additional.
Both list five grind positions and three brew-temperature levels. Prestige’s advantage is milk automation rather than more documented coffee-adjustment positions.
5 - 5 = 0 extra grind positions and 3 - 3 = 0 extra temperature levels. Setting counts do not prove identical cup results.
If your recipe uses 200 mL of liquid milk, the nominal carafe holds two such portions with 100 mL left. Actual usable fill and cleaning routines still follow the manual.
500 mL / 200 mL = 2 complete portions, remainder 100 mL. This is capacity arithmetic before frothing, not a claim about the machine’s latte recipe or minimum fill.

What you give up
What matters in practice
Choose the milk method you want to use every day. The more expensive-sounding name does not buy a larger coffee machine.
The Plus still grinds, doses and brews internally. What it leaves to you is the milk. That combination suits someone who enjoys steaming but does not want to prepare a portafilter puck. Prestige moves the milk into an automatic carafe workflow. Choose between those two levels of involvement rather than assuming Plus means beginner and Prestige means expert.
With Plus, wipe and purge the wand after steaming. With Prestige, care for the carafe’s milk-contact parts and run the required milk-cleaning routine. Both also need regular brew-group and tray attention. Automatic milk saves technique during the drink, but it does not remove the ownership work afterward.
Gaggia’s current site advertises an updated Prestige menu with over-ice drinks. The selected Amazon listing still describes 12 recipes. This comparison does not grant the newer feature to that older listing. If iced presets are decisive, ask the seller to identify the exact version rather than relying on the shared Magenta Prestige name.
