Main trade-off
It is a front-only camera despite its premium price.

Compare Garmin’s 1440p display model with the 4K touchscreen upgrade.
The practical choice turns on top resolution and display control, then on the constraints in your own setup.
Before you choose
Buying the X310 does not solve remote access by itself. Both cameras need constant power, internet-connected Wi-Fi and a paid Vault plan for connected parking features. If your only hotspot is the phone you take on your trip, that connection leaves too. Plan the parked-car connection first, then choose the camera resolution.
Garmin specifies constant power, active Wi-Fi and Vault for remote parking features on both. A phone hotspot only helps while it remains available to the camera.
Choose the X310 for its 4K option, but do not expect its highest frame rate at that resolution. The 120 fps mode records at 1080p without HDR. For strong changes between sun and shadow, consider its HDR mode instead. Both models already include a polarizer, so paying more is not necessary just to get that reflection-reducing feature.
The X310 manual separates 4K/30 fps with HDR from 1080p/120 fps without HDR. Garmin lists an integrated polarizer on both models and 1440p capture on X210.
Winner by situation
Garmin Dash Cam X210 lets you confirm framing and review basic settings without a phone.
For top resolution, Garmin Dash Cam X210 records “1440p” and Garmin Dash Cam X310 records “4K”. This physical layout changes what fits, what can stay separate and how the product is loaded or emptied.
Garmin Dash Cam X310 uses an 8-megapixel sensor for finer forward detail in favorable conditions.
For high frame rate, Garmin Dash Cam X210 records “Standard frame rates” and Garmin Dash Cam X310 records “1080p at 120 fps”. This changes motion smoothness and the recording or hardware demands around it.
