Main trade-off
Shark NeverChange Air Purifier MAX
The up-to-five-year claim assumes a 300-square-foot room and 12 hours of daily operation. Harder use can shorten life.
Head-to-head
The Shark is easier to automate and maintain around pets. The Dyson is the more specialized formaldehyde-and-gas design, but gives up sensors, Auto mode and app control.

Main trade-off
The BP06 has only two manual speeds: no particle sensor, Auto mode, Wi-Fi app or live air-quality display.

Long-life-filter purifiers compared on sensing, gas treatment, controls, upkeep and price.
The practical choice turns on automation and gas treatment, then on the constraints in your own setup.
Before you choose
Shark's up-to-five-year main-filter claim assumes a 300-square-foot room and 12 hours of daily use. Dyson specifies 21,900 hours for its HEPA element, which equals about 2.5 years at 24 hours daily or five years at 12 hours daily. If you run continuously, do not compare the headline years directly. Choose after checking both the usage assumptions and the separate carbon replacement schedule.
21,900 divided by 24 and 365 is 2.5 years, or five years at 12 hours daily. These are translations of rated time, not guarantees under heavy smoke, fur or dust.
HP302's particle sensor can change the fan as air conditions change. BP06 offers two manually selected speeds without the Auto and app functions of other Dyson models. Choose BP06 if a steady selected setting is important during calls and you will adjust it yourself when needed. Choose Shark if automatic particle response matters more, accepting that response can change the sound during use.
This is about control behavior, not a measured acoustic winner. The Big+Quiet name does not establish comparative sound at equal particle delivery, and BP06 should not inherit sensors from a different Dyson purifier.
Winner by situation
For prefilter care, Shark NeverChange Air Purifier MAX records “Washable debris screens” and Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde records “No equivalent removable pet screen”. For prefilter care, this identifies what the treatment path is built to capture or reduce and what recurring care it requires.
Its onboard sensor can change the fan speed automatically. Check the model facts for what that sensor measures.
Its display or sleep control can darken distracting indicator lights.
Its particle performance and pet-home design make it a useful choice for airborne dander.
For gas treatment, Shark NeverChange Air Purifier MAX records “Carbon plus scented odor cartridge” and Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde records “Carbon plus catalytic formaldehyde filter”. For gas treatment, this identifies what the treatment path is built to capture or reduce and what recurring care it requires.
Its weight, handles or casters make regular room-to-room moves more practical.

Shark, HP302
A medium-room True HEPA purifier with automatic particle sensing, washable debris screens and an unusually long conditional filter claim.

Dyson, BP06
A commercial-leaning Dyson with H13 HEPA, substantial carbon and a catalytic formaldehyde stage, but deliberately simple controls.
Meaningful differences
| What changes | Shark NeverChange Air Purifier MAX | Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automation | Particle sensor and Auto mode | Two manual speeds only | This changes how many steps the user handles and how much of the routine is automated. |
| Gas treatment | Carbon plus scented odor cartridge | Carbon plus catalytic formaldehyde filter | For gas treatment, this identifies what the treatment path is built to capture or reduce and what recurring care it requires. |
| Prefilter care | Washable debris screens | No equivalent removable pet screen | For prefilter care, this identifies what the treatment path is built to capture or reduce and what recurring care it requires. |
| Filter claim | Up to five years under stated light-duty assumptions | HEPA rated 21,900 hours | For filter claim, this identifies what the treatment path is built to capture or reduce and what recurring care it requires. |
